Her heart was pounding with nerves and excitement. Finally, she had found the girl who was the descendant of Celestine Helex. She walked into one of the exhibits, moving to stand beside a girl her age, standing in front of a painting. "Beautiful, isn't it?" Harper asked. The girl barely looked at her, her dark amber eyes focused ahead of her, on the painting. Her caramel blonde hair was pulled back into a ponytail, tendrils of her hair remaining in the front. "It is," she said. She had a lovely, refreshing crisp accent. "But," she added, turning to look at Harper, "I don't think you are here just to see the art, no?" "How'd you guess?" Harper asked, a faint smile pulling at her lips. "Hmm, I'd recognize my old friend from anywhere, Harper Nightingale." "Glad you still remember me, Amber Rocaicha," Harper replied, smiling at her. Amber smiled back, a glint in her eyes. "So, why'd you come here?" "You've known that people have been looking for you. Many good, many bad--don't worry, I'm on the good side." "But you weren't before," Amber remarked. She noticed Harper's surprised expression and smiled. "I'm not clueless, Harper. Where I grew up, I learned a lot. Probably even more than you, and the women listening in on your little recording device." Harper looked at her in surprise, to where she was pointing at Harper's earrings, which were indeed recording devices. But how did Amber know that?! Clearly, she was no ammature. "I know exactly who I am, Harper," Amber told her. "I have never ignored it. That would just make things worse. But let me get one thing straight. Good or bad, I will /never/ be used. I am my own girl, and I always will be." "We don't want to use you--" Harper tried to say, but Amber shook her head. "I see it already. I see you and others think that I am a tool in this war that is not mine, but only my great grandmother's. And I will not be used for that war. You are on your own, my friend," Amber told her, laying her hand on her shoulder. "Anyways, I have important things to take care of...see you soon." And then she turned, giving Harper's shoulder a squeeze before she left, disappearing into the crowd. "Did you get that all?" Harper muttered to Tiffany and Beatrix and Bex, who had been listening in. "Yes. And it's definitely...troubling," Tiffany said. "But I don't think she is an enemy." "Yeah, well, she certainly seems like the type to become one if you take one wrong step, whether it's a millimeter or no," Bex replied. "She's definitely dangerous," Beatrix agreed. "She is. But I don't think she'll hurt me," Harper said as she walked out of the museum, glancing up at the sky. "There is a war ahead of us, though. And I know that Amber on our side or not, we'll see it through." And everybody burst out laughing. ˜”*°•.˜”*°• End of series •°*”˜.•°*”˜
