I've been hanging out in a lot of fictionkin spaces recently. And most of them are pretty good. However, I've been noticing something... unsettling, to say the least, surfacing. People keep claiming that it's possible to control fictotypes. Which.. it's not. The definition of fictionkin is "identifying nonphysically and /involuntarily/ as a fictional character". If it's voluntary then it's not fictionkin. Full stop. There are of course other things it can be, like copinglink. But fictotypes, by nature, are not controllable. You can't just gain a new one just because you wanted to. You can't just drop one because you got bored of it or something. Sure, you can ignore it, claim it's not there anymore, or in the case of gaining one pretend it's there, but you can't gain or lose fictotypes just because. People constantly claiming this is possible is not only invalidating to many, but also annoying and shows a lack of respect toward the seriousness of the community as a whole. It also often goes hand in hand with the "fictkins are offensive to irls and fictives bc they can control it and we can't" argument which is blatantly untrue as, as I've said several times, fictionkins can't control it either.
