Chapter 13 Themes: Death Amelia's Perspective "LIAM!!!" The scream exploded my eardrums. Liam was dead. Liam collapsed on the tile floor and I sprinted forward to support his limp body. Tears raced down my cheeks like a flood during Hurricane Katrina. My best friend and secret crush had been killed by the thing that had torn apart the school. Then I remembered who had done this to him. Joseph. Slowly, I glared up at Joseph, my cheeks blazing red with fury. "What...have you done? Do you know...WHAT YOU'VE DONE!?!" Joseph pointed his gun at me. "Be careful what you say, Amelia." "So you DO know my name." "Of course I do. I was just calling that to annoy you and, eventually, murder your boyfriend." "Do you really hate Liam that much?" I sniffled. "Ever since the day I saw you, I knew you were my soulmate. So I had to get rid of the middleman," Joseph explained with a maniacal grin. "So you KILLED HIM!?" I gasped. "I had to do what I had to do," Joseph shrugged. I paused for a second, then continued on bravely. "Well, if you haven't already realized, then I'll realize it for you. We'll NEVER be together, Joseph Mare, because I'd rather die than be with you!" Joseph's grinning face slowly hardened and his grip on the gun tightened so much his knuckles glowed white. He glared a hole through my body, then lifted the gun towards me. A cold breeze blew through the hall ominously. As I realized my carelessness, I bit my lip, closed my eyes, and prepared to die. That's when I heard the voice of an angel. "Get away from my sister or you'll face the consequences that you should've learned the day you were born." Joseph turned toward my brother. "Who are you?" Xavier smirked. "You don't need to worry about that. Just put the weapon away or I'll call the police." "Yeah, that's not happening. I could kill you in a heartbeat, noob," Joseph laughed dismissively. "What about the rest of us?" a boy the same age as Xavier stepped forward from behind the corner of the hall. "Pfft. There's only two of you. I could easily take you...down..." Joseph's confident tone slowly dissipated as 20 more students walked around the bend of the corridor. "Not so confident now, are you?" Xavier raised his eyebrows and crossed his arms. "I-I can still kill you!" Joseph attempted to threaten, but he was beginning to waver. Xavier pulled out his phone, which showed 9-1-1 on the screen. "The police wouldn't like it very much if you did that." Joseph growled and threw his gun back into his backpack. "Fine. But I'll get you back for this!" "I'm still calling the police. Attempted armed assault is against the law." Xavier frowned as he pressed the call button. Joseph sighed and stared at the floor, knowing he had been defeated. The game of cat and mouse was done with the mice as champions. But one of the mice was dying. I swiveled my head to face him. "Liam! Can you hear me?" It was useless. I could see the life slowly leaving his eyes. Depression shook my entire body. "LIAM!!! Please don't die!" Then the paramedics burst through the front doors, along with the entire police force of Cray. A couple of nurses placed Liam on a stretcher and carried him outside. The police handcuffed Joseph and dragged him away. I was left paralyzed, mourning for my one true love. Author's note: Wahhh cliffhanger!!! Will Liam live or not? Tune in next time to find out! *cue epic action music* XD
