Winged Cats (or Alatusfelis if you want the scientific name) are a Genus of tree dwelling Quadrupedal flyers, and like their name suggests are cat-like and are lightly built predators. They are closely related to the Rhinoensatus genus. the main difference between them and Rhinoensatus is that they all have long hairless tails and short faces but Rhinoensatus have short, plump tails and long faces. Most Alatusfelis species are less like big cats and more like wild cats and house cats, excluding macroodont which IS big cat-like. all species are solitary animals and do not hunt in prides. There are 3 species showcased here, the Yellow Tailed Winged Cat (Alatusfelis xanthoura), Creeping Winged Cat (Alatusfelis repens) and the Big-toothed Winged Cat (Alatusfelis macroodont) The Yellow Tailed Winged Cat lives in rainforest environments and uses it's tail to swing through trees. they live at the very top branches of trees. they have short broad wings to help them fly through trees with agility. It eats insects and small vertebrates, often snatching them while flying. another notable feature is it's bright orange quills on it's back, which are unpleasant tasting and sharp. not many carnivores dare to eat it! it also has a pink bump above it's nose, which is in fact an air sack that it can inflate to communicate to other members of it's species. they lay 5 - 15 eggs every season. they do not parent their offspring much, they only protect them when they are still eggs or newborns. after 2 weeks their offspring will be completely independent. Yellow tailed winged cats are crepuscular (awake during dusk and dawn) and so have cat-like slit pupils to help them see in low light The Big-toothed Winged Cat is leopard-like and also lives in rainforests. they hunt larger animals than the Yellow Tailed Winged Cat does and also live nearer to the forest floor (but rarely actually go there). they also exhibit more parental care, looking after offspring for about 2 months, however will not aid them in getting food once they can walk around easily, because offspring can't fly yet they mostly eat ground dwelling creatures during this time. they hunt during the day, unlike the Yellow-tailed Winged Cat. they use their large teeth not only to kill prey, but also in combat with other Big-tooths. because they are in the same habitat, they occasionally eat Yellow-tailed winged cats, but this is very rare since they hunt during a different time of day and because of their defensive spikes. The Creeping Winged Cat lives in temperate zones in sparse forests and uses tree trunks as shelter and to incubate eggs. they have the same parental care behaviours as the Big-toothed Winged Cat. these creatures spend most of their time in the treetops. they eat small animals but sometimes eat fruit too. they hibernate in colder seasons and so need to eat as much food as possible to stay healthy while hibernating, quite similar to bears, they will become more aggressive during this time. they hunt and are active during the day. these creatures use the rhombus-shaped structure on their tails for communication with other Creeping Cats.
