Chapter 15 Themes: Romance Liam's Perspective I woke up in heaven. Everything around me was soft like a cloud, and the sun glowed on my face like He had promised. It was beautiful. But...where was everyone? The silence rang in my ears. Something was off. I blinked and rubbed my eyes. Well, I attempted to, at least. Something held me back. I looked down to see tubes attached to my arms. A pang throbbed in my abdomen. That was odd. You weren't able to feel pain in heaven. I gazed around a little more to grasp my surroundings. That's when a lady in a nurse's outfit creaked open a door and walked into the soft white room. She was carrying a tray with a small cup filled with liquid and a thermometer. "Who are you? W-where am I?" I asked, my voice surprisingly raspy. The nurse's eyes widened. "You're alive!" "Alive? What are you..." I trailed off as I remembered what had happened. I had almost died. "I'm...I'm alive!" I gasped. I touched my body. I really was alive! This wasn't a dream! "But...who saved me?" The nurse thought for a second. "I think a boy named Xavier Larkensburg. He called 9-1-1." "Larkensburg?" I questioned. Then I realized: "Her brother..." "Whose brother?" the nurse asked, her brow furrowed. "My friend, Amelia. If her brother saved me, she had something to do with this..." I gulped. Then I snapped my head towards her. "Where is she? WHERE'S AMELIA!?!" The nurse rushed over to my bedside. "Mr. Campbell! Please calm down." The nurse sighed, then continued on. "A girl named Amelia has been visiting you since you were brought to the hospital. She has hazelnut hair and brown eyes. Is she the same Amelia you're talking about?" I let out a collective sigh. "Yes. Yes, it is." "In fact, visiting hours are about to start. She's probably coming today," the nurse remembered. "Thank you...I'm sorry, what is your name?" I asked. "Angel. My name is Angel," the nurse smiled. Her golden blonde hair shone in the overhead lights. I blinked, and she was gone. Then the doctor came in and sat on the edge of my bed. "Hello, Liam," he said. "My name is Dr. Ford. I've been taking care of you for the past couple of weeks." "Nice to meet you, Dr. Ford," I said, shaking the doctor's hand. "That was quite the act of bravery you committed." Dr. Ford smiled. "I would do anything for my friend. Besides, Joseph needed to be taken down, even if it meant I had to be taken down with him." "What a brave young man! The girls must be DYING to be with you," Dr. Ford laughed. "They are, but there's only one girl I love," I said dreamily. Dr. Ford glanced at his watch and jumped up. "Oops! It's nearly visiting time! I'd better go and escort any visitors to your room." "Thank you, Dr. Ford." I nodded graciously, then sat back and closed my eyes. Soon enough, the door opened again. My eyes blinked open gently and I was met with the sight of wavy brown hair and a freckled nose. Amelia. "Amelia! I'm so happy to see you!" I cried happily, then I stopped. "I-I'm sorry." Amelia sat down next to me. "I'm sorry, too. I shouldn't have assumed stuff about you, and then you almost died!" "You don't need to apologize. I shouldn't have forced you to hang out with me. That's how you got into this mess, anyway." I sighed and rubbed my temples. "You know who the root of all our problems is? Joseph, that's who!" Amelia exclaimed angrily. "You know what? You're right! We shouldn't be blaming ourselves! Joseph is the cause of all this!" I huffed. Then I paused. "Well, we SHOULD be blaming ourselves a little bit." "Yeah..." Amelia sighed, biting her lip. "Liam, I need to tell you something." "What is it, Amelia?" I asked curiously. "Actually, I need to tell you two things," Amelia expanded. "Sara's gone now." "Oh." "No, don't be sad!" Amelia gazed into my eyes. "It's okay. She's where she belongs now. Plus, I have you and my brother!" "What was the other thing you wanted to tell me?" "I-I have a crush on you. Since the day I first laid eyes on you." "I've known." "Really?" Amelia glanced up at me with her beautiful brown eyes. "It was kinda obvious." I shrugged, then winced in pain and grabbed my stomach. Amelia put her hand on my stomach in comfort. "It's a weakness of mine. Whenever I see a cute boy, I can't help but fall in love with him." "You think I'm...cute?" My eyebrows shot up. "Ummm..." Amelia's face burned a bright cherry red. I grabbed her hands in mine. "It's okay. I think you're cute, too." Amelia smiled, and her freckles danced like fireflies across her nose. I smiled back at her, my sly grin making its return. Amelia slowly leaned forward, and I readjusted my body so our faces were inches away from each other. Finally, our lips met. Joseph had been brought to justice. Amelia had found her crowd. Sara was home. And I had found true love. Everything was finally right in the world. Author's note: Almost done!
