Alone in a diner, at the edge of time, two lovers find each other again. There are no happy endings here. Just... endings. ** Instructions — use the left and right arrow keys to switch between slides. ** A little something I wrote last summer -- partly inspired by Milton and heavily so by my upbringing. These two characters were "created" as background lore for a fantasy roleplay, but they eventually developed into their own enclosed loop. Though I'd love to write a novel with them, I don't have much patience, and I feel that bittersweetness is best kept within a short experience. Beyond that, these two are nearly impossible to write a lengthy story for: they have a linear tale, sure, yet at the same time, don't share a story in which "togetherness" exists far beyond beginnings. They have their own stories - their own plotlines - yet very few directly affect the other until their one and only reunion. It is independence of each other that defines their existence, and at the same time, causes them to function much more like overarching forces. In other words, they cannot be protagonists. Protagonists in and of themselves, yes, but not for each other. Still, with how much I adore them, it felt right to give them a little something. (And now, I'm convinced this is the greatest piece I'll ever write. That there is nowhere to go from here, but back.) Anyhow, I'm rambling. For the few who choose to read, please enjoy. #literature #shortstory
