"What's wrong?" she asked, pulling aside a girl she barely knew but was named Aviry. Aviry shrugged. "I heard that Mr. Clarkson got in a car accident and is in the hospital, so we're getting a new substitute--and apparently a new student is joining today as well. Weird, right?" "A little, I guess," Sophia replied, frowning. Aviry left her alone to think, and as she did, Sophia reflected about Mr. Clarkson. She didn't really like him, since he wasn't the best teacher, but he certainly didn't deserve getting hurt like he had been. Then the bell rang, signaling that it was time for the class, so Sophia shrugged and headed to History, the class Mr. Clarkson had taught. She sat down in her usual spot, at the back of the class, noticing that the popular girls, London,Courtney, and Kennedy were glowering at her. She frowned, confused, but just then somebody stepped into the classroom. He must've been the new substitute--he was blonde, and had dark eyes. He also had this sort of aura around him that only Sophia must've noticed, because she started feeling uneasy, noticing that everybody else looked just fine--bored, really. Sophia didn't really like that fact. "Hello," the man said in a smooth, slippery tone that ultimately decided for Sophia she wouldn't like him one bit. "I am your new teacher. My name is Mr. Daniels." "Wait, I thought you'd only be our substitute until Mr. Clarkson heals," said London from nearby, wrinkling her nose as she scrutinized Mr. Daniels. He looked at her just the same way. "Change of plans," he said smoothly, making her frown, along with a lot of other people. Sophia found herself staring at Mr. Daniels in what was a near glower with her narrowed eyes. She shook her head and looked away, sighing as he began his lecture. But not even two minutes into it, a boy stumbled into the classroom. And oh, was he cute! He had cleverly styled blonde hair, bright green eyes like seaglass, perfect features, and an apologetic smile that made him look like a movie star. "Sorry I'm late," he said to Mr. Daniels. "I'm the new student. My name's Jake." "Oh, well, go ahead and sit down, Jake," Mr. Daniels grunted, not seeming all that happy about being interrupted. "There's an empty seat right there." And then he pointed right next to where Sophia was sitting in the back. Sophia felt her face turn red, especially when the whole class turned to her, watching as Jake headed down to the back, taking a seat next to Sophia. "Alright, pay attention class," Mr. Daniels said, and everybody reluctantly turned back, allowing Sophia's face to cool down. ...Only to heat up again when Jake turned to her with a sweet smile on his face. "Hi, I'm Jake--but I guess you know that already," he whispered to her. "Um, yeah," Sophia whispered back. "My name is Sophia." "Pretty name. It means wisdom, right? So obviously you have the good grades here." Sophia tried to stifle her giggle, and thankfully Mr. Daniels didn't notice it. "I try," she whispered back, and then noticed Mr. Daniels talking about something else. "A long time ago there was two princesses," he was saying. "Princess Harleen and Princess Celestine. They were friends at first, but as they grew older and realized all of the problems in the world, they decided that they had to protect their kingdoms--only they had different ideas of it." Harleen and Celestine...why did those names sound familiar to Sophia? The smart one in class, Brian, raised his hand, frowning. "Mr. Daniels, I don't think this is what we were learning--plus we've never heard of it before." "Well you're learning it now, and that's the point," Mr. Daniels replied, scowling at Brian before turning back to the board, continuing to talk about the lesson. Then he pulled out two mini portraits of two woman--one with dark blonde hair and amber eyes, and the other with dark brown hair and brown eyes. Staring at them, Sophia realized...she kind of had a resemblance to them. And that woman she had seen yesterday had looked exactly like the Princess Celestine. Then the bell rang, thankfully, and Sophia immediately got up along with everybody else, heading out of the classroom and trying to avoid Mr. Daniels gaze as she left. And yet somehow, she still managed to catch his eye--and she did /not/ miss the glower on his face, leaving her wish that she had. ˜”*°•.˜”*°• End of Chapter •°*”˜.•°*”˜
