Trigger Warning: Transphobia Alexandra, Age 6 - she/her. Enters elementary school Alexandra, Age 7 - she/her. She doesn’t like it when people call her a girl, but what else would she be? Debates asking her parents, but worries they’ll laugh at her. Alex, Age 8 - she/her. Starts going by her nickname more. It makes her feel happier. She asks her parents if she can cut her hair, but they say no, insisting that little girls should have long hair. She starts wearing it up to try to pretend it’s shorter than it is. Alex, Age 9 - he/him. After a long time, Alex decides he’s really a boy. He doesn’t know when he truly figured it out, but being a boy makes him way happier than being a girl. He tells his friends, but they all laugh at him. He puts his hair in a bun because it’s very long. Alexander, Age 10 - he/him. He cuts his hair at school, figuring his parents can get mad, but they can’t undo it. They get really angry but can't really put it in a feminine style with how short it is. He meets a boy named Jake. Alex, Age 11 - they/them. After being a part of an online community for a while, Alex realises they may not be a boy, either. They go by they/them pronouns, though Jake is really the only one who uses them. They don’t tell their parents, because they know they won’t support them. Their hair has gotten longer, but they don’t dare cut it again. Alex, Age 12 - they/she. Alex noticed she associated being a girl with her parents, but she actually is kind of okay with it. They realise they have a crush on Jake and ask him out, and he accepts. He’d apparently had a crush on them for a while before they ever asked. They tie their hair back to keep it out of their eyes. She meets a girl named Cass who actually uses her pronouns, and doesn’t laugh at her. Alex, Age 13 - they/she. Alex is mostly happy with their identity and pronouns, and a comfortable life with Jake as their partner and Cass as their friend. She learns that what her parents are is transphobic, and they likely won’t support her, so she doesn’t tell her parents about her identity. Alex, Early age 14 - they/she. Alex avoided telling her parents about her being nonbinary as long as she could, but one of her teachers told her parents. When they got home that day, their parents yelled at them and told them they were a girl and that was all they’d ever be. They told them that if they ever tried to cut their hair again, they’d get put up for adoption, and that they can’t tie their hair up anymore. Alex, Late age 14 - they/them. After the argument with their parents, Alex didn’t want to go by feminine pronouns at all. They at first tried to hide what happened, but Jake noticed something was wrong, and once he asked, they couldn’t hold it in. After they told him what happened, he said they could live with him and his parents. They told him they couldn’t, that’d never work, and he drops it. Alex, Early age 15 - they/them. They come up with a plan, though it’s a risky one. They don’t want to run away because if Jake’s parents were caught harboring them, they could get in trouble for kidnapping. So they decide to make their parents kick them out first. They cut their hair and come back home. Their parents are furious, and they finally snap, screaming at them to leave and never come back. They take their prepacked back and go to Jake’s house. Alex, Late age 15 - they/them. Jake’s family is supportive of them and their identity, and they finally feel safe. They fix their hair so it’s not so haphazard and start going to therapy. Jake is fully supportive and by their side the whole time. ~~~~~ So that's Alex!
