Debbie got off her bus. She was looking at her phone, not really paying attention to any of her surroundings. The screen was cracked, but that didn't stop her from reading the text again and again. "Where are you?" the text said. I'm in the living room watching TV." "Just got out of school” Debbie replied . “What time does your school get out?” “About three minutes ago” the text said. Suddenly Debbie tripped on someone and next thing she knew she felt herself falling. Her eyes were tightly shut. She landed with a thump on her back. Her phone flew out of her hand and onto the ground. When she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was the cracked phone. She grabbed it and put it in her pocket. Then she looked around. She seemed to be in the back rooms of a retail outlet. LEVEL 0 “Hello? Is anyone there?” She yelled to no avail. The only things she could hear was the echo of her own voice and the hum buzz of the fluorescent lights. The hum buzz seemed to be louder and more obtrusive than the ones she had seen. She attempted to send a text to her friend “Dude, I’m in some sort of empty storeroom” she typed but it came out as: *$4-&*&*-&&&*&++& Debbie cursed loudly. “Just my luck” she said to herself and sat down on the floor. The carpet Felt moist and cold. She got up almost immediately “It's alright Debbie, you’re safe” she thought thought though It was hard to believe. Debbie wondered if she had fallen into another planet or world. "I have an idea" she said and stood up. "I can find my way home by following the sound of the traffic." "But where will I go then? There’s probably no traffic in or out of this old a$$ storage room. There isn’t even any service" she asked herself. Debbie sighed. "I guess I'll just stay here for tonight. Tomorrow I’ll try to find a way out. She picked up her backpack. It was heavy but manageable. The only things she had on her was her homework, binder, sketchbook and phone which was now rendered useless. Debbie went to sleep. The night was quiet. She dozed off right away. In her dreams she saw herself sitting outside in front of her house. It was getting dark and she could see her parents walking towards her. They were holding hands and smiling. “It's finally over” she heard her mother say. "We're still together. That's all that matters. You don't have to worry about anything anymore. We'll take care of everything. Just watch us" her father said. Her mother hugged her tight. “I love you so much Debbie. I know we haven’t always been able to give you what you need, but I promise when you're older, we'll make it up to you. Everything will be perfect.” The dream slowly faded away and Debbie opened her eyes. She saw the fluorescent lights above her. They were now flickering, one after another. Every time they stopped flicking on, they would flash red. Each flash lasted a few seconds before going back to normal. She slowly got up. She yawned and stretched. “Well I guess it’s time to look for a way out of this hell hole” she said to herself.
