She didn't tell her the next day either on the ride to school. But when she took her seat in history next to Jake, she decided she had to tell /somebody/. "Jake," she whispered, since Mr. Daniels hadn't come into class yet. He looked over at her. "Yep?" "Something happened yesterday," Sophia mumbled. "What? Did you get a bad asthma attack?" he asked, sounding concerned. Sophia shook her head. "Somebody tried to kidnap me," she told him, her voice quavering. "I had to run into this alley, but there was a dead end, so I started climbing, but he grabbed my foot and tried to drag me down, and I barely escaped." Her voice cracked. Jake's eyes widened. "I'm so sorry, Sophia! Did you tell anybody else? Like your mom?" Sophia shook her head. "I know I should've, but I...I don't want to make the situation worse than it is. Plus, it was probably just a totally random thing," she added. Even she didn't believe that, though, and she could tell Jake didn't either. "You have to be careful, Soph," he said softly. "I'd hate for something bad to happen to you." "Me too," she mumbled, looking away as Mr. Daniels entered class. He started his lecture once more, and halfway through it, Sophia noticed some sort of emblem on the jacket he was wearing. It was a circle, with a fancy "H" on it with an X crossing through it. Something flashed through her mind, and she blurted out, "Helex." Before she could stop herself. Mr. Daniels froze, nearly dropping his chalk before turning to face her. "What?" Sophia felt her face turn red. "I...uh...wasn't that...uh...Princess Celestine's...last...name?" He stared at her, suspicion written across his face. "It was." "Yeah...uh...I just...remembered...it...and...yeah...." Sophia felt her face reach nuclear level. Everybody's eyes were on her, watching her like she was an idiot. She probably was. Sophia hid behind her dark blonde hair, feeling Jake's gaze on her especially, burning into her back. Mr. Daniels grumbled, turning back to the board. Sophia closed her eyes, sighing. She tried to remember what she had remembered, and saw that symbol come to mind again, and two older girls playing together, leaving her out of the mix. Her...sisters? But...Sophia didn't have sisters. She felt dizzy. As soon as class was over, she got up, ending up to be the last to leave. But before she could, somebody grabbed her shoulder. Sophia paused, looking up at Mr. Daniels' face. His eyes were narrowed. "What did you remember?" "Nothing, I don't know what you're talking about. If you'll excuse me, I have a class to be at," Sophia said, sounding crosser than she meant to as she pulled away from his grasp. But instead of heading to her next class, instead she headed out the school doors, planning to go home early. But instincts had her turning down the left road once more as she tried to recall her memories. She remembered...being a very little girl. Probably one or two, and she was outside with her sisters, watching as they played together while their nanny was on a phone call. Then she saw something shiny in an alley, so she went towards it, only to be snatched up by somebody. She let out wail that had been muffled quickly, and heard her sister ask her name, calling for her and heading into the alley, screaming a second later. The third sister asked for Sophia's sister, trying to go after her, but Sophia remembered distantly that she was grabbed by a man, taken into the shadows as well, screaming the whole way. Sophia stopped, trying to take in deep breaths. She did have sisters when she was young. She had different parents, other than the ones she knew--other than her mom. And then she knew. "My whole life is a lie," Sophia breathed out. ˜”*°•.˜”*°• End of Chapter •°*”˜.•°*”˜
