alright uh backstory time (all male btw) ok so there are these three dudes and they're close friends and yay sunshine and rainbow until a deadly plague suddenly spreads through their institution (hence the teary eyes/noses) and they're forced to watch their friends and family die in front of them lol. Eventually they find out about a cure, and they team up to try and seek it out. Little do they know, one of them is infected, and they end up catching the sickness. Eventually one of them succumbs to the illness and the other two are forced to go on. Eventually they find the "cure" but to their dismay there is only one dose. Knowing that only one of them will survive, they fight, eventually leading to one of them killing the other. Last guy ends up doing everything he can to rebuild his home town, leading the small group of survivors and resurrecting their city, albeit a lot smaller than before.
