“Mother,” I began, walking up to my mother. “May I please take my ship and fly around for a bit?” Mother glared at me. “Fine, but only until dinnertime. I looked at the clock. 6:39. Which meant dinner would be in twenty-one minutes. I sighed. “Bye, Astrea!” my little brother screeched. I smiled. “Bye, Miko!” I called to the three-year-old as I slammed the door shut. My ship, or as humans would call it, a UFO (whatever THAT means!), was a metallic silver pod with neon purple and blue lights on the side. It was simple, but it had a hood ornament of the earth in all its pretty blue-and-greenness that I got when I visited my cousins Phoebe and Danny. I liked it. I had just gotten my license a couple of months ago, so I was still pretty new to flying, but I’d been practicing so I was pretty good at it. I lifted the top and climbed in. Where should I go? I asked myself. Then an idea popped into my head. Maybe, I thought. I could fly by the Earth! No, I told myself. I’m supposed to be back by seven. I shook my head to clear the thought. But it didn't go away. Maybe just get a closer look, but don't land? And then I decided. I stepped on the gas pedal. My ship slipped off the ground with ease. “I’m not going to get anywhere if i'm this slow,” I told myself. I cranked the speed up to light speed. Twelve minutes later, I got extremely close to the earth. I tried to slow down, but the speed thingy was stuck. Oh no, I thought. I braced myself for the crash. And then, I hit the ground.
