Café in the distance | chap. 2 Introvert A shy, reticent person “Tyra has been going through time..” Tyra stops reading and tries her hardest to listen to her mother’s conversation on the phone, probably with her friend or a close relative. It isn’t completely a lie, though. Tyra has been going through some though-ish sort of times at school. For example, just last week she got into a “fight” with her best friend. - rewinding to last week- “Mom, I promise you I didn’t fight Regina. She got mad at me for no reason. She kept on saying how I stole her boyfriend and how she was going to steal mine. I didn’t know she had one!” Tyra said, climbing into the passenger’s seat in her mom’s car. “And then she pushed me, tripped me, and dragged me by my hair. My stuff was scattered everywhere, and Regina didn’t give me a chance to get them.” Tyra’s mom gasped. “No! Tyra, I love you. You know that, but I don’t believe you… Regina would never do that! She’s such a nice girl, so sweet and polite…” Tyra rolled her eyes. This always happened. Whenever she talked about Regina, her mother would always compare the two girls. Sometimes, Tyra swears she hears her mother wishing Regina could be her daughter instead of Tyra. “I’m not lying. And either way, her ‘boyfriend’, who I’m guessing is Alex Williams, is really…” Tyra tried to find a word. “Unattractive.” -back to the present time- Finally, after like 36 minutes, Tyra’s mother gets off the phone. Tyra rushes into her mother’s room, her book in her hand. “Mom, mom.” Tyra exclaims. “Is it ok if I go down to the café down the block?” Her mother sighs. “Um, yeah…sure.” She walks over to her drawer and pulls out a 10 dollar bill, a 5 dollar bill and two 1 dollar bills. “Here, take this money and don’t go anywhere besides that area. You can go into the book shop but please, PLEASE don’t leave that spot.”
