I have this memory, a memory that I can not forget… Not so previously, my parents and I had moved into a town which went by the name of Middleboro - Middleboro, Massachusetts. Middleboro is a town which possesses a location called the town hall. This place is haunted, let me tell you. My parents moved about a mile away from the town hall. I didn’t verily like the thought. The thought of acknowledging that the place I’d call home will make my mind go insane. That is an unknown prediction, but I really despised the feeling. I know that I can freak out every once in a while, but I also know that I am not crazy. I never wanted to move here, but I had an immense feeling that I didn’t have a choice. I mean, if you knew my parents, you would know that they wouldn't bother to walk away. Spoken by my parents, “ghosts aren't real, don’t be out of your mind,” and “who said it was haunted here,” but I had a sense that I'm not going to like this new house. We drove all the way across the country, and for this? I didn't take one glance at the house, and I’m already hating it. We pulled into the garage and took out all of our luggage from the trunk. As I walked into my new house, I whipped out the camera my mother had gotten me for my birthday. I started recording the large open room which echoed my footsteps. I knew it had some sort of spirit which came to haunt me. It had the strong smell of dust and old wallpaper, or a smell of which I can’t even define. I slowly walked into my bedroom. “Ripped wallpaper, no carpet, no furniture, there is something off about this place- “ I said. “Come see this!” Yelled mother. “Coming,” I shouted back as I shut off the camera. I sprinted to the kitchen. A large hole in the wall was presented to my eyes. My mother was full of apprehension, I could see it in her face. “Did you do this?” Mother shuddered in fear as I refused. I took a closer look. We stood in silence for a couple of seconds, until… “BANG! BANG! BANG!” The loud noise sang through my eardrums, to my brain - the noise indicated that something was wrong. Shuffling came from down the basement. Everything was happening at the same time. Mother was shouting in fear. That's the first time I've ever seen that happen. A loud screech rang my ears. I was alerted. I was vastly curious and I knew I had to explore more secrets about this area. And so, I bring out the camera. As the sun descended, I grabbed my flashlight and ambled down the creaky stairs of my basement. “SCREECH!” A clearly audible noise came from the basement, sounding almost like fingernails running across a large chalkboard. I turned on my flashlight and I looked around the cold dusty basement. I mostly just saw spiderwebs and dust blowing along with the air. I steadily investigated. Soon after that, my heart stopped as I shined my flashlight to the wall and saw a dark figure lurking in the shadows. “SCREECH!” a noise came from the creature's mouth. I scampered up the wooden stairs and I sat on my bed. My pulse was racing and my heart felt like it was going to pump out of my chest. I quickly checked the camera footage. I couldn’t believe it - I caught footage of the figure. I was eager to find more. I bolted back to the basement to get more information. However, it didn’t go as planned. It was a real tragedy - I fell backwards. I woke up in the hospital. My head was bleeding, and I felt extremely lightheaded. The doctor was talking to my mother as my eyes were blurring out. The doctor left to notify the other doctors about how I was feeling, and my mom left to use the restroom. I watched the closet door creak open. My vision was weak, however I did see a translucent figure scurry up to my face, saying “come here..” that was the first time I heard it talk. It was about to drag me off of the hospital bed until the doctor walked in and it faded away immediately. “It's in the closet!” I yelled. The doctor thought I was crazy, yet she curiously opened the closet door. She was paralyzed in fear once she felt a finger stroke her spine. Mother then walked into this big mess, after coming back from the restroom. Mother was horror stricken. “Let's get out of here,” she calmly suggested. I wondered how she was so calm. We drove home. I hurried to my room. I had a bit of head trauma, but absolutely no hesitation to look into this. I laid down on my bed and I looked up to the ceiling. I saw a note. It said something I could never forget - I know what the figure is. I’m not allowed to tell you. Something bad will happen to me if I do. But I just wanted to let you know that this figure is dangerous. Stay away from it, trust me. I hope you stay safe. I was racing through the pages of many books, thinking I was going crazy. I was quivering in fear. I needed to sleep, or rest my head, or something like that. I needed to find out why it was coming for me. My head was pounding from the steep fall. (More in the notes and credits)
I rested on my bed for about 2 minutes, looking up into the ceiling and thinking about it. But then, something occurred which disturbs me to this day. It was hovering above me singing a lullaby. “Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep my dear child…” The sound came closer and closer to my eardrums until I couldn't take it anymore. “STOP!!!” I screamed in horror. I eventually calmed myself down and asked “Why are you here? “What do you want? “What are you?” “Wh-Why are you-” I stuttered. It then started to shush me, with its scrawny finger and sharp nails. “Why are you doing this?” I continued to ask. “Revenge,” It said with a deep voice. “Re-revenge for what?” I asked. “REVENGE,” it responded in anger. “HURT, MEAN, DIE!” It continued. “.....Betrayal.” It mumbled quietly. As it was shushing me, I was trying to calm myself down. “S-s-sss-stop, p-please…” I said. Judging by the pressure of it’s finger against my mouth, I could tell that it felt sudden anger. I knew at this point that I had to run. I was agitated - my heart was racing faster than a cheetah running across a large field. As I was running, I damaged my knee as it banged against the edge of the counter. I was limping away, searching for a place to hide. I hid under my bed. I was determined to defeat this evil beast. I heard footsteps coming towards my bedroom. It turns out, it was just my mother. “Are you okay, honey?” my mother asked me. “I heard you screaming, honey-” I noticed a slight rasp added to her voice. Mother then crouched down. Her face was right up to mine. “Mom, I think you need to quit smoking. Your voice is-” Mother interrupted me as her appearance shifted into the creature. “Mom?!?!” I said, frightened with disbelief. It began to get up in my face. I kept thinking about the note. There must be more to it. It got even closer to me. I head butted the strange figure. My head was bleeding and I was very sweaty. I raced to the note I had left on my nightstand. I figured that they had put something on the back of it, or the note contained some kind of secret. I checked on the back - nothing. I used my small black light. “Bingo!” I yelled. “I am so happy that you found this. The creature would never know what I'm writing, sorry for being so difficult. I found this invisible ink at the dollar tree… only one dollar. I am really grateful for it. Anyways, let's get to the point. When you FEAR it, it gains more power. Stay calm. Its energy deteriorates when you let it know who's boss.” “Thank god!" I shouted. The strange figure took a sharp turn and sprinted toward my room. Out of the blue, nursery rhymes began to play. It was the perfect music to match the horrifying scene occurring in my bedroom. The figure arose beside my bed. I jumped out the window. It wasn't really dark. It was windy. I felt like I was a knight, fighting another with a sword. “I’m not scared of you!” I angrily shouted. It started to fade into the depths of the sky abyss. I was automatically reassured that I could go on with my life without putting my mind on it. “Are you okay?” said my mother as she ran outside. She looked really worried. “Yes, I’m okay - I kind of just killed a monster.” Her face shifted from worried to extremely disturbed. “The creature - like the one at the doctor?” She asked. “Oh god, that is horrifying…” she continued. All of the sudden, the creature arose from behind her. “BEHIND YOU!” “BEHIND YOU, I SAID!”
