PART TWO: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/952710191/ Hello, Disney fans! There’s some exciting news on the horizon. As of 2024, one of the most beloved characters of all time, Mickey Mouse, is has become public domain. However, it’s not as straightforward as it might seem. Here’s what you need to know. Mickey Mouse made his first appearance in the 1928 short film Steamboat Willie. According to U.S. law, a copyright can be held for 95 years. This means that in 2024, the copyright for Steamboat Willie will expire Only the earliest form of Mickey from this film will be able to be used by artists and creators outside of Disney, and that too in a very restricted way. More modern versions of Mickey will remain unaffected by the expiration of the Steamboat Willie copyright Disney has clarified that Mickey Mouse will continue to play a leading role as a global ambassador for the Walt Disney Company in their storytelling, theme park attractions, and merchandise. They will continue to protect their rights in the more modern versions of Mickey Mouse and other works that remain subject to copyright While Mickey’s copyright has expired, Disney still holds the trademark on Mickey as a "corporate mascot and brand identifier". This means that creators will not be able to produce any work that deceptively fools consumers that their Mickey is in any way affiliated with Disney Already YouTubers like Valiskibum98 have gotten striked down with copyright concerns from Disney, even though there is nothing illegal anymore about it. I'm thinking of using Mickey for my own tv station i'm starting on YouTube. Let me know if i should. Also, I'm going to start doing commentary animations on Scratch on a new account.Stay tuned for that. But yeah the mouse is outta the house. You CAN use it for whatever you want you own the mouse on the screen not the mouse after 1928.
FUN FACT: Steamboat Willie is not Mickey Mouse's first film, it's his third the two made before were never aired due to lack of distributors (Plane Crazy and the Gallopin' Gaucho) *Copyright InfinitexStudios
