Chapter one is short, its like 800 words so have fun. tws: Death, war, grief, let me more if you need more Clementine awoke with a jolt. She gasped for air, thousands of thoughts running through their head, every part of her body sore. They looked around desperately. Where were they? No one was there, not Nori and Neo, not Hecate, not Xanthe, not Dad.. The last thing they remembered was… Fighting. The war. Oh no no no no no. This was not happening. They hurriedly stood up, legs wobbling and throbbing with every step. As quickly as she could they started to run out of her house, but she stopped when she heard a small voice call out “mama?” She turned behind her and saw a small raven haired boy. It was Neo. She ran and hugged him, voice quavering she told him “Darling, I need you to stay inside. Stay with Nori, and don’t leave xeir side.” With that she was off, but as they exited her house she was greeted with fighting and screaming from the pit below the isles and the cities surrounding the hole. The land surrounding the pit was the worst, fighting surrounded every meter of visible land. Her legs gave out at the sight of the once green fields bloodied and gray stone paths looking as if they had just been painted. They fell and landed on the soft grass but she had to keep moving. Her family was in danger. Her kids were safe at home but their wife was not. They had to get her. She crawled, using mostly her arms and fingers to get to the bubble elevator, not caring how the rushing water would sting their freshly torn fingers; or the cuts from thistles covering her arms. The elevator sucked her down it, and before they knew it they were spat out onto the battlefield. They tried to stand, and even though her legs wobbled beneath her, she raised herself up on them. They had to make sure Hecate was alright. She had to be safe. She had to be. Clementine repeated those words to themself over and over looking, searching, yearning for any sign of their beloved, their soulmate, her other half, her only love. She moved quickly yet deliberately- that was until she saw a lump on the ground. She went towards it as fast as she could in her weakened state. The shape began to take shape, the long ears, the ever-growing horns, the three mushrooms, one now without a cap. This was not the sight she was hoping for. Instead of the eccentric brunette she l̶o̶v̶e̶s̶ loved so dearly, there was only a corpse with daggers and arrows sticking out of her skin, blood matting the hair that had always been so soft. Clementine screamed. Fights around her halted, the sound of the pure agony of losing the one who may as well be half of your soul, reverberating for such a distance that the world seemed to go still, mourning with her. She punched the ground, tore at her hair, and held the limp body in her arms. She cried and cried as if that was all she knew how to do. It seemed as if it was all she ever was going to do ever again. When her tears began to slow and she couldn’t cry anymore she screamed and screamed, cursing the gods above and the ones who had done this. She swore at the skies, hoping that XD may take pity on her and strike them down. It would have been merciful. Who would ever do this? Who would ever hurt her chocolate cosmos? Her flower? Her love? The only one who could ever truly make her feel like them? Their first love? She screamed until she felt a pair of familiar arms wrap around her and pull her away from the body. She gasped and started to claw at the arms despite the fact that her fingernails felt as if they were about to fall off (they probably were). She opened her eyes and saw Xanthe. The 13 year old who had been her best friend through thick and thin, ever since that first day, the day that XD had sent her that stupid golden letter. At the sight of her friend doing her best to calm her down, she turned around and hugged her Xanthe in turn wrapped her arms around the adult and squeezed. “Xan… she gone xan…” they whispered, voice cracking painfully with each word. “I know Clem. I know.” Xanthe whispered, doing her best to keep her composure and to ignore the new streak of white in her best friends hair and the slightly longer and darker horns. “You won’t leave me right?” “I won’t” “Promise?” “I promise.” However, promises from mortals don't mean much in this world. Not even the promise of death could save her from their fate.
