Madeleine Corstolla-Klein I walked into the building. It was so much bigger than I thought it would be. And it was beautiful. The doors were a glass so clear, I almost walked straight into them. And when I walked inside there was a chandelier made of gold and crystals. The sunlight illuminated the crystals, making small lights dance on the tile floor. I hopped on the elevator, two other people, a man and a woman, both walking in with me. “What floor, miss?” The woman asked me. “Oh, um. Floor…6.” I almost forgot. Ethan had told me, and made sure to email it to me just in case. The woman looked at the man, he gave a short nod. She pressed the button and shuffled back. I scooted back towards the corner, giving us all some space. When the elevator reached floor 6 I stepped out. There was a teller at a large curved desk, and a computer crowded with papers. The teller was a young girl with one strand of hair dyed a pure white. Her skin was like mine, a medium shade of tan. She looked up at me and smiled. “Can I help you?” She said, I walked over. “Yes, um, I have a job here actually.” I said. “Oh! You’re the new girl, right?” She squinted at her computer screen, “Madeleine, yes?” She looked up at me. A wave of heat flushed over my body. I dozed off for a moment. “Miss? You are Madeleine Klein, correct?” The girl asked, again. “Y-yes. Yes, I’m Madeleine.” I said rubbing the handle of my suitcase out of anxiety. “Okay,” The girl scrolled through her computer, thousands of named boxes flying through the page. She stopped, and then pressed a link that I couldn’t read fast enough. My name popped up, along with another. Leo Marcer-May. “You will be working with Leo, in……” She scrolled through more, “Oh, I’m sorry,” She chuckled, “At Disney World.” She smiled at me. My heart skipping a beat, I smiled, and walked away. Leo was waiting outside, looking up at the building like it was a giant diamond. “Hi,” I said, waving at his face. He jumped, startled, but composed himself. He was wearing a grey button-down, khakis, and some purple and black Jordans. His hair was poofy and curly, and he had wonderful blue eyes. My gaze ventured to his hands, and I noticed a scar on the back of his hand. I self-consciously rubbed my own, remembering that Lupè jumped on me this morning before I left for work, scratching my wrist. He buried his hands into his pockets. “Sorry, I didn’t mean–” “It’s fine.” He interrupted. *** When we got into the news van I immediately got a message from Erik. Erik: Sorry, Madeleine! I forgot to tell you, this week is just a time for relaxing. Me: What? Erik: It's just for this week, Klein. I would like you two to get to know each other! Me: okay "Strange," I said, turning my phone off. We were already heading to Disney now. "What?" Leo said. "Erik said this week is just a 'time for relaxing.' He wants us to get to know each other." I said, rubbing my phone's case. "Huh," He had a thoughtful look on his face. "Well, I guess that isn't all too bad. Like you said--well, what he said--we'll get to know each other." He nudged my arm with his elbow, smiling. "Yeah." My hands were flexing, nervously. "I guess so."
