Leo Marcer May As soon as I called the ambulance they were already here. The passengers on the rollercoaster, including me, were escorted off. I took Madeleine with me and brought her to the paramedics. They took her away on a cot, and strapped a breathing mask to her face. They asked her questions like; "What is your name?", and, "Where do you live?", in which she answered with nothing but chokes and gags, followed by protests. I hated it. They kept prying her with confusing questions, they strapped and held her down, and they ignored her when she asked for someone's name. I couldn't hear who she asked for over all the ambiance. *** I had been waiting in the lobby for about an hour and a half, until finally a nurse came in. "Sir, if you would like, you can visit Ms. Klein." She walked away, without another word, not even caring what my reaction was. God damn, people. Disgusting. When I walked in, Madeleine was humming a song that I couldn't recall. Then she started to sing. "When the bird flies, He doesn't fall, He glides across the sky. And when he reaches our home, He'll have to say goodbye, Cause his time has come, And he's done what he's done. But don't worry my child, He's still in our hearts…." She trailed off, when her gaze landed on me. "I'm sorry. Am I interrupting something?" I said. She stared, as if I was a piece of candy waggling in front of a child. "Leo?" She said, squinting. "You came? W-why'd you come?" She looked distraught, but somewhat relieved. "What do you mean? Of course I came, you're my new partner." I said, walking over to the chair next to her bed. "But...I'm just a girl." She said, looking at her scarred hands. I wanted to tell her that she wasn't just a girl, she was the most beautiful, wonderful, spectacular girl, and no one could ever tell her otherwise. I sighed, "Madeleine, even if I didn't know you, I still would have come." I sat down, and grasped her hands in mine. She stared at our hands, and then me. She looked confused. Uncertain. "But...you don't know me." "That's why Erik's giving us a free week. So we can get to know each other." I smiled, rubbing her hand with my thumb.
