- — ✈️ — - Wtae :)) - - - I opened my eyes to the sound of waves crashing against the grey rocks outside, claws of the sea. I yawned. Another hopeless, clouded day. Great. Sometimes, I wish I could just disapper, and it’d all be ok. I’d be with her parents - both of them, this time - and my twin sister. Things wouldn’t have changed. Nothing would have happened. Except it did. “Bye, Mum!“ “Bye, you two. Be careful now... Make sure to be back for dinner..!“ “We will!!“ Me and my twin sister, Primrose, chanted, before racing outside. “Last one to the treehouse is a rotten egg!” “Oh, Prim..!” We laughed. I had reached the tree last, as usual. And then we had sat down and played, as usual. But something was off. “Hey, what’s that?” “What’s what?” I glanced up from my drawing. Prim pointed out the window to the beach next to us. A big, grey lump was swimming towards us. “What the..-?” Me and Prim carefully climbed down the ladder and flew over to the shore. “It’s a boat…” “A what?” I said. “A boat.. I’ve read about them. They are inhabited by weird, wingless beings on two legs… and don’t forget their temper.” I gazed out over the sea. Something red glistened on the boat. It was getting closer. Wait a minute.. was that..? “Fire! They’re attacking us! Quick, run!!” Prim continued to roar and soon the whole village was involved. Bumble, our neighbour, stopped us in our tracks. “Oh, there you are..! Your parents were looking everywhere for you… You need to run. It’s not safe… Goodbye girls.” Bumble dismissed us with a roar. “ATTAAAACK!” We ran. And we ran. And we ran. God knows where we were going - after a while, we finally stopped, safe from it all. “Prim, what are we going to do?! Oh, Prim… Prim..?” I looked around me. Not a soul in sight. I must have lost her along the way… Sprinting back, I suppressed a desperate cry. Roars split the air. Fire was all one could see, and clouds of smoke rose. Flaming balls of rock were flung from the above. Young hatchlings were desperately trying to get back to their mothers, and failing. D3@d dragons littered the ash-ridden ground. They were lucky to have an end to their suffering. “Bluebell? Bluebell..!” “Mum? Mum, is that you? What’s happening? Where’s Prim?!” “Oh, Bluebell…” My mother cradled me, sheltering my already scarred wings from the flames. “I-it’s all going to be ok… Mummy and Daddy love you, ok? And we always will, never forget that…” A look of great sadness crossed her mothers eyes. They weren’t like normal, glistening and happy. They were hazy, and distant, and something else I couldn’t understand. “There she is! Get her!“ I don’t remember much of what happened after that. Shrieks of pale, wingless beings tore mother away from me. They aimed with flaming arrows at my body, already limp from the clouds of ash. My mother rose, a mighty guardian angel in the sky, and swooped down on them, not giving a thought. Out of the blue, Dad had joined in too, roaring and swiping anywhere and everywhere that he could. My scarred, tearful eyes drawn from Mum, I heard an ear-splitting roar that tore the sky apart. Realisation hit me like a wave of grief, pulling me under. “MUM..!!!” Before I knew it, sadness was dragging my body over to her limp carcass. B/00d was strewn everywhere, a guilty puddle surrounding her frame. It pooled out of a deep gash in her side, and a man-made metal spear protruded from the gap. I gazed into her eyes, more distant than ever, like she was in another world... Although i suppose she was. She was gone. Tears cascading from my eyes, I drew myself to her neck. An opal - her birthstone. Mum always told me that it brought good luck. Whether that was true or not, it didn’t matter. I loopend the thread around my neck, just before I realised what was happening. “BLUEBELL, FOR GOD’S SAKE - BEHIND YOU!” Dad roared, a second too late. A dart was thrown into my side, making me even more woozy. A metal cage came down on top of me, and i was lifted into a dark truck. A limp figure was thrown in with me. “Prim..!!!“ She looked up at me, a gash over one eye, sealing it shut. “Hey, Sis. Looks like we got a long journey ahead of us...“ Gazing out of the barred window, I realised we did. - - - Tadaaa :D lol that was fun! Even if i dont win, i had a good time making it :))
