She had loving parents, and a stable home. In the underworld. Unlike the lucky people living, Merilin was born dead (st1llborn), and therefore raised in the underworld. In the underworld, there is one goal that every child aspires to. To become a reaper. To become a reaper, you need to get into the AFAR (academy for aspiring reapers). Somehow, surprisingly, Merilin got in. In the school, you learn how to become a reaper. Reapers reap the souls of the dead, and bring them down to the underworld. All reapers are under the command of the head reaper, a lucky reaper who graduates top of their class when the old one retires, who serves under satan. In AFAR, you need to graduate top of your class when the old head reaper retires to become head reaper, graduate in the top 50% to become a reaper, and if you don’t manage to become a reaper then you are an imp, torturing the souls. ~about AFAR~ Merilin is a first year. All the reapers have to go through five years of AFAR before graduating. When you first join AFAR, you are given a custom scythe of the scull of the animal that you are, a name, and a human bone mask. Merilin has a phoenix sythe. Phoenixes tend to be hard-working, easily distracted and have a kind heart and good moral compass. It is unlikely for a phoenix to become head reaper, by the time Merilin joins there has been one Phoenix head in the whole of history. When reapers retire, they become professors at AFAR. There does come a time, though, where if you have been in the underworld long enough, you will fade and cease to exist. If you graduate to become a reaper, you get to add ‘reaper’ to the end of your given name and get a cape. Merilin’s name is Grim. If you are an imp, then you do not get to add reaper to your name, and do not get a cape. Imps are still a respectable position, just reapers are more so. ~Merilin’s future~ Merilin is a cheeky student, and is very bad at what she does. She’s a bit like worst witch 2.0. But, eventually, when the time comes, she graduates top of her class when the head is retiring, making her the head reaper. Her name is the Grim Reaper. Reaping has always been considered to be a serious job, but with Merilin in charge, she turns it instead into a celebration of the life the people have lead. Merilin goes on many adventures as her time as head reaper, both in the human and the underworld. She makes a human friend, which is considered illegal at the time. Together, the change both of their worlds for the better. When it is found out that she is friends with a human, she is frowned upon and almost kicked out of her position, however, they soon realise how much she’s done to help the underworld, she is restored and the system changes. When she retires, she teaches at AFAR side-by-side with her human friend. Eventually, when she fades away, she is hailed as one of the greatest reapers in history. There it was!
