(WARNING Read previous chapters FIRST) The rest of the trip seemed calmer than usual, most likely because Felix, Pete, and Emily are all a bit nervous. Felix most of all. When they were just a few miles from the Johnson house, Felix wasn't looking good. "Hey-" Emily said, interrupting the silence. "-no need to be worried." Felix was about to ask how she knew, but realized his ears were down again. "It's just been so long." "Well, I'm not sure that matters much, if they're even half as great as what you've told me, there's no need to worry." Felix really tried, but couldn't help being nervous. "Do you think they'll forgive me?" "Of course they will, I know it." "Do you? You've never met them before." "You could say I met them through meeting you. Seeing how kind, and hardheaded you are." She teased. "I guess so, but are you not worried?" "Shhh- we don't talk about that." She said, avoiding the question. "Besides, do I look worried?" "You spent your whole life training, I wouldn't be surprised if you can control how you look." He argued. "Fair enough." She shrugged. "Well, as nice it is to hear you two arguing passive aggressively." Pete started. "You may want to get ready, because the house is in sight." Whatever Felix was feeling went from 1 to 60 miles an hour, he was not ready for this. Emily wasn't ready either, but held his hand, to boost their confidence. Pete parked the RV in front, and Felix's last sliver of hope that his parents weren't there disappeared, seeing both cars in the driveway. Pete waited for them to get out, but seeing that they weren't moving, he opened the side door, and practically pushed them out. "Actually-" Felix said as they walked, "-I think it's best for them to meet you after seeing me, to not overwhelm them." Emily nodding, letting go of his hand, and standing behind the RV. Felix walked slowly towards the porch, climbing up the small set of stairs, he's known the house his whole life, but never has it looked this ominous. His hand shook as he rung the doorbell, the sound echoing all around the house. He could hear footsteps, and the door opened, showing his dad. He wasn't looking ahead at first, cause he was talking to someone. After he was done, he started turning his head saying, "Sorry, just talking to the wif-" He paused when he saw Felix. Felix's tongue was tied. He couldn't get a sound out. "F-Felix?" His dad asked. Felix nodded. His dad seemed slightly tongue tied as well, "H-How are you here? Where were you, we thought you were dea-" "I'm, okay, dad." Felix said quietly. "I just wasn't able to come-" His dad kneeled down, and pulled him into a bear hug. Felix wrapped his arms around him. "We thought we lost you." His dad said. "I thought I lost you too." Felix replied. He could hear his mom coming down the hall, "Who was it honey?" She called, and when she heard no response, she looked over. Her and Felix's eyes met, and she covered her mouth with both hands, it looked like she was about to cry. "There's still room for another." Felix said with a smile, and his mom ran to join the group hug. They were finally together. After the hug fest was done, they all stood, and his parent bombarded him with questions. "I'll answer everything in a little bit, I promise." He said, and they dialed down. "Have you been by yourself the whole time?" His mom asked. "I'm- not the only one to come." Felix replied signaling Emily. Emily came out from behind the RV, making sure she had good posture. His parents were speechless. Felix signaled her again, and she slowly came up to them. Waving sheepishly. "This is Emily, she helped me escape." Felix explained. "Escape?" His mom asked. "Can we go inside? It's kind of hot out here." Emily said loosening the collar of her shirt, and they all went inside. Felix and Emily sat on one couch, and Felix's parents sat on another across from them. "So- Emily, right?" His dad asked. "Yes?" Emily responded, fixing her posture. "How long have you known each other?" "I'd say about 19 months or so." She looked to Felix, and he nodded. "So, since Felix disappeared?" She scratched the back of her head. "Yeah, sounds about right." She chuckled nervously, and both of them told the parents everything that's happened. The parents seemed proud at some parts, and worried in others. It's clear that they were having an emotional roller coaster. As they were telling the story, Felix noticed that something was different in the house, it seemed strange somehow. "So, what is it between you two?" His mom asked, snapping him from his trance. "We're friends." Emily was quick to say, Felix nodded, half pretending to know they were talking about. The mom smiled, "I see.", was her only response. "How about this Stern fellow?" His dad asked. "Wait, I'm forgetting something, you haven't met Pete yet-" Felix said. Emily just realized this too. He said, getting up, and leading them out the door. When they got there, the RV was gone, and their bags were on the porch, along with the jeep in the shoulder of the road. "But, he was here-" Felix started "Maybe with everything, we forgot him, and took too long inside." Emily thought out loud. "I'm sure this person will be back, just another time." His dad said, leading them back inside. Felix was going to ask them about what his parents were up to while he was gone, but they were interrupted by loud crying from upstairs. "She's awake." His mom sighed, getting up, and going upstairs. 'Who's awake?' Felix wondered "Do you have a sister?" Emily whispered to him. "I think I would've told you if I did." He whispered back. Felix turned around as his mom came down with a little girl wearing yellow pajamas, and a little bow in her brown hair. Couldn't be more than 2 years old. This is probably what was different in the house. "Sorry, her naptime ended. She's up and ready now." His mom said. When she put the baby down, the baby slowly walked behind his mom's leg, hiding. Felix watched in awe, "When did this happen?" "We were going to tell you about it after- the game. That's why mom wasn't there, she had an appointment," His dad said. "and of course, we didn't expect all this to happen." "What's her name?" Emily asked. "Her name is Luisa, after her grandmother." His mom said, "Want to say hi to Felix?" She asked Luisa in a playful voice. Luisa cooed, as if saying, 'No way!' "Sorry, I bet she'll warm up to you, eventually." His mom frowned. "I'm not the least bit surprised,- d" Felix assured her, "-I'm practically a stranger to her." "Well, I'm going to feed her in the highchair, just tell me when you need anything." His mom said, picking Luisa up, she hid her face in his mom's shoulder as they passed. They talked for the rest of the day, and his dad explained to Felix how they had to be very cautious during the baby's growth, since they were thought to not be able to have children. After they were all caught up, his mom outdid herself once more with some steak, Emily was a huge fan of it. When it got late, Felix's parents showed him to his old room, along with Emily. It hasn't changed much, except, it was very dusty, like it hasn't been touched since he left. Emily had a look around, and teased Felix about how many football posters he had, and pointed out some of her favorite books on his shelf. After the humiliation, Felix's parents showed Emily where she could stay for the night. It was the guest room, with a decent bed, and a crib. "This is where the baby sleeps, but maybe we could move her crib to our room tomorrow, sorry." Felix's mom said. "No, it's fine, I think I'll enjoy being near the baby, never been near one before." Emily said, smiling. Felix's mom was a bit confused, but nodded. His mom let Emily borrow some of her old pajamas, since she didn't pack any. Felix had to try not to laugh at the sight of Emily in slightly oversized pink polka dot pajamas. His mom gave a warning look at him, saying, "Those are just the Pajamas that were popular at the time, no need to laugh." Felix stopped mid snicker, and nodded. "You know that you've grown out of your old pajamas, so you'll be borrowing dad's old ones." His mom said, taking some out. They all went to bed, and Felix felt right at home on his own bed, besides the pajamas with strange lasers and robots. The big logo said 'Star wars', but he had no idea what it was, 'Must've been a movie or something.' He thought. (End) Author's note: A whole lot written in JUST A DAY. I wanted to wait, to build a little tension. You guys have NO idea how long I've wanted to do this chapter. That's why I was so excited! Baby Luisa is based off my actual baby sister, different name of course. But I've watched a lot of my younger siblings grow during baby-hood, so I know the best parts to add. >:) Also, PJs from the 80s, gotta love it! Nothing on Stern............... To be honest, I kind of want to get Link, Blue and Skittles to read this, I think they may enjoy it. Because some of their friends do.
