Nakiri: (Nah-ki-ree) Singular: Nakir (Nah-kir) -=-=-=-=-=- Table of Contents -=-=-=-=-=- Overview Build Looks Abilities Life Cycle Habitat Civilisation Diet Evolution Facts Art Update Song Overview -=-=-=-=-=- Nakiri are a species quite similar to a gecko/chameleon/frog. They are are large as a Komodo dragon and become as long as one when sitting to the fullest, excluding their tail. They reside in a rainforest similar to the Amazon where many predators lurk and await their next meal. Like poisonous frogs, their bright colours are supposed to signal a predator they’re poisonous, and so, are widely avoided by many. Their species are a gentle bunch who like to play, roughhouse and relax in their little abode. And while they are poisonous, they rarely use it for ulterior motives and hate killing. Build -=-=-=-=-=- Like said before, they are as large as a Komodo dragon and stretch to their length if they sit up straight. Their hands are cup-like and similar to chameleons in real life, and they use the sticky fluids on them to climb trees. Their front limbs have noticeable flaps and their back legs are thicker, since it aids with jumping and all other antics they like to do. Looks -=-=-=-=-=- When a Nakiri is born, they are usually a pale colour similar to white and are absent of any frills or plates. But as they get older, they start to retain the unique looks and their colours become more bolder and brighter. Nakiri usually have sets of four colours, but it isn’t weird for them to have three, two or be solid. However, it is quite uncommon to see them with dark colours, luckily they aren’t the type to discriminate. Abilities -=-=-=-=-=- A Nakiri eventually inherits a large sac on their neck as they grow older, using it as an extra supply for air and to use it as a surprise attack for enemies. Their tongue also becomes poisonous as they grow older and is the only way to differentiate a female from a male, since female tongues stun their opponent for hours before they die while a male’s poison takes immediate effect. Life Cycle -=-=-=-=-=- Nakiri are born live in a transparent, jelly-like substance that they call their eggs. Instead of forming inside their mother, they form in the egg and stay there for about 9 months. When they ‘hatch’, they slide out of it and keep the fluids from the inside, making them highly poisonous. In this stage they are partially comatose, keeping their eyes shuts and only making little chirps. They eat of course, but they don’t do much, even squirming is rare to see. Then they go to the third stage, around 2 - 3 for humans. They’re more active and their eyes finally open. The slime on their reduces and collects at their cups, and their head frill start to develop and their tail grows longer. The fourth stage happens as they change from toddler to teenager, and their frills develop more, as well as the one on their arms. The plates also develop and more if the slime goes to their hand. Eventually, as a young adult, they become the ones you see in the base and grow to their full size, as an elder, their usually slick and wet skin becomes tough and leathery, and their frills dull and shrink, as well as the lethality of their poison. Habitat -=-=-=-=-=- They live in a very humid rainforest where it rains once a cycle (half a year). Like all rainforests, it’s very colourful to look at and dangerous at the same time. The Nakiri use the hollow of the massive trees as homes which can house many generations, the longest standing home being the leaders which have been around for quite a long time (subjective to change based on lore). Civilization -=-=-=-=-=- Nakiri reside in hollows of large trees, surrounded by a thick undergrowth. A tree could house a bunch of generations and it’s common for families to have their trees close to each other. As Nakiri are social animals and don’t exactly have a hierarchy (they have a leader but it’s a loose democracy where every Nakiri has a say), cities, villages or a kingdom are nonexistent, instead traded for a bunch of weddings/ families close knit with each other, becoming a large web that leads to the leader. Their civilization is called Ivua. (Iv- oo-ah) Diet -=-=-=-=-=- Nakiri have a wide range of foods, such as berries, fruit, nuts, flowers, leaves and insects. Back then, they had sharper teeth, but now it’s blunt and barely visible, which makes it hard to eat meat, and they turned away from that a long time ago. Most of the things they eat are swallowed whole, but larger nuts and berries are smashed before swallowed. For leaves and flowers, they shred them into large bits and then swallow. Evolution -=-=-=-=-=- The only thing that would be odd for the Nakiri is their air sacs, which had a major purpose in the old days. Back then, Nakiri belonged to the many rivers of the rainforest, using their sacs to stay in it for prolonged periods of time. The flaps on their forearms were flippers used to navigate the waters easy, the ->
same reason for their bulky tails. But then a large relocation had undergone, taking them further into the rainforest and out of reach of their river homes. Then, they didn’t have poison, but after eating a certain flower, funky biology magic made them reproduce the toxins and transfer it to their tongues and skin. A relative of this plant can be used to get rid of the poison if you’re attacked. This was the first major change, as their usual blues, green and greys were traded for the colours they have now and their once carnivorous diet became focused around the current one of today. Facts -=-=-=-=-=- Their hands are called cups and the end bit is called a sucker despite not looking like one. A group of Nakiri are a wedding It’s common for Nakiri to be seen fighting as it is a way of showing affection to each other and have some fun as well. You’ll know when it’s extreme if they actually bring out their poison. Nakiri speak in chirps, hisses, trills, purrs, clicks and gurgles. Body language is easily spotted through their head frills and tail. The head frill example is in the project but for their tails, the lower it is, the sadder they are. Nakiri have two sets of eyelids, one horizontal and one vertical. The vertical one is very transparent and used as a way to block dust and other particles getting in their wide eyes. The horizontal lid is the primary one and used for emotions and extra protection from dust. The two can’t close at the same time. It should be obvious, but in case not, they’re immune to their own poison. A cycle is 6 months, which is a full year for them. It takes 50 and a half cycles for them to become an adult and another 6 cycles to become and elder. So their life span is relatively short as it’ll take approximately 28 real years and 3 months for them to go through life. They use leaves, vines and wood in their everyday lives, as the main components in their tools, homes and dressing (except the dressing and home part is more of flowers or anything that makes it look pretty) Apart from climbing, they like to jump and leap from place to place, usually in the canopies of the rainforest. This is due to how flexible and stretchy their bodies and bones are. They have a hobby called Tree Surfing which is when they cross the top of trees so fast it’s like they’re walking on the leaves. The plates on their body are made of soft tissue and can seem like they’re glowing faintly in the dark. Eggs are the size of a Komodo dragon egg and they can have 3 - 9 at once. This is called a crib. Ex: they had a crib of 4. You know how I said their civilization is a bunch of weddings/ families close knit together? Well a group of weddings is called a snipe. For easy tracking, snipes have a crest they all share and borders which are open to other snipes. Weddings will then have a crest under THEIR name, so if you were to identify a Nakir, you’d have to look for their snipe crest and wedding crest. They have a large population with about 30 snipes and one can contain about 10 Nakiri per wedding and 6 weddings per snipe. The description was long so I couldn’t add it in diet but think gums when imagining the strength of their teeth. Their noses and mouth are barely visible, but they do have them, and it’s only when they close their mouth that it can’t be seen. Their ears are also there but they’re a small slit on the side of their face which aren’t visible unless held open. The texture of their skin around their ears and nose is rubbery. I know their proportions change throughout the art but the thumbnail is most accurate to their current/ final build and shows their slender and long bodies, unlike the base. Since they don’t have strong bodies to do industrial tasks, or anything that requires heavy lifting or exerting themselves too much, the way they build is to collect strips of wood and stick them together with a substance from a special tree that’s the equivalent of hardware glue (I think that’s what it’s called). Civilisation example Tbh I had to choose between four species I spontaneously made in one day. I like making funny animals ok? It took me a while after I drew the non-biology stuff to realize, oh wait, that’s not what I’m supposed to do, but I added it anyways. *glances at the clothing examples I left out* …ANYWAYS- I swear, I can info dump so much on these lil’ guys I love them and they are the best thing I’ve created past 10 pm- Updates -=-=-=-=-=- 18/04/23 - Posted Some minutes after - Edited and added more info 18/04/23 Added more facts Song -=-=-=-=-=- Real in Rio (sped up and pitched) (It matches their joyful and whimsical personality so much, as well as their openness to strangers)
