The bigger demon looking thing was his past self (which is still a cat) The black symbolizying mistakes and trauma from the past. The cat is running from his mistakes and sins. BTW I DON'T BELIEVE IN REINCARNATION I JUST THOUGHT IT'D BE COOL FOR THE VILLAIN.
