It was quiet except for Fated's pawsteps. Lifting their wings, Fated prepared to take off. For some reason, though, their wings felt like lead. "Huh?" They murmured to themself, trying again to lift their wings. This time, they were able to take to the sky. Fated breathed out a sigh of relief and flew through the city, gazing at the lights and sleeping people. At last, they found their friend Harry's house. His owner had left the window to their apartment open, so Fated wiggled in. As they padded through Harry's modern kitchen, their unsheathed claws clicking against the floor, they spotted Harry's nest. Surprised, they found it empty. *Huh?* Fated thought, seeing dusty footprints on the clean floor. *Those must be Harry's.* Fated followed them out the window onto the small metal deck. The footsteps led onto the branches of a tree, and into a twisting alley. Fated followed them on foot for a while, and then they tried to fly. However, again, their wings felt weighed down like stones. Fated paused, and felt the ghostly brush of something against the back of their neck. Whirling around, they saw a ghostly lavender cat who was nearly see-through. The cat was holding on to Fated's wings and was sinking it's teeth into Fated's neck. Fated opened their mouth to scream, but so sound came out. They spotted the limp, black and white body of Harry nearby, with a ghostly lavender cat clamped on to his neck as well. The world around Fated started to swim, and everything went dark... Fated woke up, curled up against Harry in a cardboard box. A human was stroking their head, and didn't seem to notice their wings. Fated wondered if they had been sleepwalking, but when they saw the claw marks and rips though their wings, Fated shuddered. It was all real. Wow- if you made it to the end of this, you deserve an ice cream.
