Story: My father had whispered his final words. Ever so softly. In my ear, and mine alone. That was when I knew. The last leaf had fallen from the tree, and waiting was over. The sun burned my back as I trudged through the sand. Why did I bother? Nobody makes it through Sephtis. My legs shook as I tried to take another step. But I couldn't. Falling forward, I hit the sand, tears threatening to spill. But I wouldn't let them. The yellow of the sand made me sick. And I sure felt sick. But then it was blue. Pulling my head up with more strength than I had for the past month, it greeted me. A pond. A blue pond with water spilling out of it. I scrambled forward until the water lapped at my knees. A tear slipped out of my eye, and I let it fall. Even as the sun keeps shining at hundreds of degrees, and even though rain refuses to fall, I can still hear my father's words above it all. "Death doesn't knock on my door. Rather I knock on Death's and together we venture into the unknown, living on in others' memories."
