"Mango'kit cmon!" Gull'kit chirped, hopping along the sand. Piper'glance, their mother, sat nearby on a sand-smoothed rock. The soft lapping of the waves against seashells rang in the salt-tinted air. "It's almost dark kits!" Piper'glance called, sliding gracefully off the stone and trotting over to them. "It's time to head back to the nursery." "Awww but mom! I like the soft-beach." "It will be here tomorrow Mango'kit, I promise." "Will Moth'kit and Kelp'kit join us tomorrow?" "Maybe," Piper'glance meowed, scooping up Mango'kit in her jaws and heading back to camp. Gull'kit loped to keep up with his mother's long strides until they could stop at the entrance to camp, pushing through the curtain of lichen draped across a large piece of drift-wood overhanging jagged shards of rock. Piper'glance pushed dried kelp out of their way, entering the sand-specked nursery. Mango'kit was dropped onto a large wad of dry moss, Gull'kit plopped beside them, bits of sphagnum pricking the pads on his toes. "Hi Kelp'kit!" He squeaked. The little brown tom looked up blearily, eyes dull and cloudy. "Hi." He sniffed, wiping his face with one paw. "Hi Moth'kit!" He shifted over and smiled. Mothkit curled up tighter into a ball, long luscious fur tucked in neatly. Gull'kit waddled over to Kelp'kit and crouched beside him, ready to sleep. Piper'glance snatched him by his scruff and plopped him next to Mango'kit. "Aww mom!!" He whined. "Not now Gull'" Gull'kit slouched over, watching as the pale red light outside the nursery walls faded to a warm grey.
