I croaked, sitting up in bed, groggily. "Good morning, darling. Are you ready for today?" Mother whispered as the rays of the bright, orange sunrise illuminated the pride in her expression. Today was the day that me and Cato had been training for. Today was the day I would volunteer. "Ready as I'll ever be." See, I very rarely lie, but on this occasion, surely it was deemed acceptable. All I wanted was for Mother to be proud of me for once, instead of my five brothers. I climbed into the shower and let the water wash away all of my fear. As I stepped out and pulled on my dress, there was a knock at the door. My eyebrows raised as I checked the time: 5:45am. Who could be at my bedroom door at this time in the morning? I pushed it open to see Cato smiling at me. "Come on in," I grinned, happy to see him. We spent the next few hours discussing the games. When the time finally came for The Reaping to begin, the whole of District 2 was in uproar. Preparing for the big day is a massive deal around the career districts, since almost everybody volunteers. Now, it was my turn and I was engulfed by terror...
