“Eliza? Eliza?” A faint voice chanted. “Guys, I think she’s waking up!” Another voice exclaimed. I tried to open my eyes, but they felt too heavy. I must have been awake for at least 20 minutes before I actually managed to open my eyes. Chloe, Violet, Evelyn, the nurse, and the Headmistress were all there staring at me. “I’ll leave you ladies to handle your business,” the Headmistress announced and walked out. “ELIZA!! Thank the heavens you’re alright!” Violet said while squeezing me into a big hug. “Yeah, you had us worried there!” Chloe exclaimed, joining the hug. “H-how long have I been out? An hour?” I asked. “Pretty close,” Evelyn said. “More like 1 ½ days.” I sat up immediately. “WHAT! How could I have been asleep for that long!” “Rather simple actually,” Violet stated. “You passed out, you stayed that way for 1 ½ days, and now you’re awake!” I rolled my eyes. “Yeah, that’s obvious.” “Hey, you’re the one who asked,” Violet said. “Let’s focus on the bigger point here,” Evelyn intervened, then whispered. “We’ve been doing a bit of an investigation on the Headmistress.” “WHAT?!?!” I exclaimed. “What have you guys learned?” “Well…not a lot, honestly,” Chloe said. “We’ve followed her around since you passed out, but the Headmistress is so secretive! Whenever she does something ‘out of the ordinary,’ it’s done in her private quarters.” Evelyn joined. “Yeah, even though I haven’t even been here a full week yet, it seems like an impossible mission.” “It would be, except…” Violet started and grinned. I grinned back, knowing exactly what she was referring to. “Except if we all break in together!” “How could we break into there? The Headmistress is there 24/7, and it’s not like any of us are international superspies!” Evelyn said. “I guess you could consider me and Eliza superspies,” Violet said smugly. “We used to break into Beatrix’s room all the time when we were younger to play minor pranks on her.” “Yeah! We’re experts on breaking into places, doing what we need, and coming out without a single trace.” “So it’s settled,” Evelyn decided. “We break into the Headmistress’ private quarters and find out exactly what’s going on.” ◆◆◆
