Hi again! Remember where we left off? Ava was 11 and she was about to have the adventure of a lifetime. It was a rainy October morning and Ava was riding her bike to school. I wish I could ride in the bus like normal kids. She thought. Mom’s always telling me I was gifted with happiness at birth but I can’t seem to find any of it. Just then, a kid from her school turned a corner right in front of her. “Ava look out!” he shouted when he spotted her. But it was too late, they crashed into each other and fell with a clatter. “OW!” Screeched Ava. “My leg… I think it’s broken.” She squeezed her eyes shut through the pain. When she opened her eyes, a pale, scared, concerned face looked at her with worry etched all over it. “Oh Jonny!” Ava groaned as she shut her eyes again. Just then, Mr. Hoover, the man who owned the grocery shop, hurried over. “I saw everything.” Was all he said as he scooped Ava up in his arms. Ava could feel her leg swelling. She felt faint and dizzy, like she was just a background character in a dream. Her head spun, her leg was screaming in pain, and she felt like she was about to die. Ava jolted up then fell back with a groan. It all came back to her just like the pain did. The ambulance sirens, the worried voices of her mom, hushed voices of doctors and nurses, the quick footsteps outside her hospital room, the feeling of pain, being pulled onto a stretcher, placed on a bed, her foot had been propped up and bandaged. Suddenly, everything got dark and the pain stopped. Her mom was nervously watching her. When Ava fainted, she began to panic. If she saw what was happening, she would have screamed out loud. Ava’s heartbeat slowed, and she began to drift off. Then, all of a sudden, it seemed like her soul left her body in the form of something else. Ava’s mom couldn’t see it, but she felt uneasy, like something was wrong. Ava felt like she was flying, and she was glad the pain was gone. A nurse came and glanced at the heart rate screen. Then, the nurse began to panic. She ushered Ava’s mom out of the room and called for a doctor. To Ava it felt like a wonderful dream, to everyone else, it was like a terrible nightmare. Ava’s soul drifted out the window and up on the roof. All of a sudden, it took form. First large wings grew from her back. Then her arms became scaly and thick, and her fingers became slick and sharp like claws. A long, scaly tail began to form on her rear end. Her neck stretches and her head seems to mold into a longer, more scaly shape. It all happened so quickly, Ava could barely keep up. And with a final “Poof!” She was a large, scaly, black and orange, dragon. She couldn’t believe it. She looked at her front talons then swished her tail to the front to take a look at it. She shook herself off and flapped her wings. Ava closed her eyes and shook her wings hard. She flapped evenly for a minute, and then she flapped unevenly. She felt wind roll around her and she forced her eyes open. She blinked. She was flying! Previous: Next:
