- - - What are tone indicators and why do we use them in text/online messaging? Tone indicators are helpful for people to know your tone, or mood you are saying a sentence in. Since, unlike in real life, messages seen by people online can be read and intrepeted in different ways. Because of this, confusion can be created and a light-hearted joke could be taken seriously by someone. Tone-indicators are an online way of, hence the name, indicating the tone of a sentence/sentences. Not everyone uses tone indicators, and they don't have to be used in every sentence online, but in some cases they are very helpful and should be used when you feel your sentences might confuse someone via your tone. The list shown in the project is a list of most, but not all tone indicators. If there are some you do not see on here, I suggest searching up the meaning yourself.
