Café in the distance Introvert A shy, reticent person A lot of people say she’s a total introvert. Other people, like her sister, say she just needs to get out of her comfort zone and make friends. - A young girl, only 12, sits at a table alone. With a good book, she can get carried away, and loose track of time. “Excuse me?” She looks up from her book. “Y-yes?” Uh-oh. This is the part where she starts stuttering for no reason at all. The waitress yawns. The girl sees she has bags under her eyes. “Sorry,” she says, taking out a pen and notepad. “Do you know what you want to order, or do you still need more time?” Oh, this isn’t good. “Uhh,” she thinks for a moment, looking at the menu. “How about the… actually, um,” she looks at the bracelet on the waitress’s wrist. Maria. “Maria, isn’t it? Anyway, can I have a sandwich instead? I’m not really hungry for anything big.” She scribbles it down in her notepad. “Okay, so what do you want in the sandwich? Just ham, mayonnaise and tomato?” The girl ALMOST smiles. “Yes, please.” “Okay, great. And to drink…?” “Uhh, I’ll just have a pink lemonade.” A while later, the waitress brings over her sandwich. She doesn’t say anything, until she’s about to turn and check up on the other tables. “Oh, is that The Adventurers?” The girl looks up, not sure if Maria is talking to her or not. When she realizes she is, she nods. “Y-yeah. I’m on chapter 10.. how do you know about this book? I thought it was mostly for kids.” She shrugs and slides into the seat in front of the girl. “My nephew read it once. He practically forced me to read it with him, so we formed a book club.” “Oh, your nephew has good taste in books.” Maria smiles and asks, “so, what’s your name?” “oh, my name?” The girl says. “Well, you might not be able to pronounce it… but it’s Tyra.”
