Café in the distance | chap. 3 Introvert A shy, reticent person I slide into my usual chair. The one closest to the window, with the cushion seats. I look out the window and hug my backpack to my chest. Every day since me and mom (and my sister) moved here, I’ve been coming to this little cafe in the corner of a street. It’s super cute, and it feels so cool. Picture this: you wake up in the middle of a cold, COLD December morning. You decide it could be cool (or warm) to come down to the cafe and drink hot chocolate. How warm. I snap out of my daydream and unzip my backpack. I’ve been reading this book called The Adventurers and i think I’m on chapter 18. “What is she wearing?” I hear someone say. Then, as if on cue, some other kids laugh. I look up ad realize that it’s a girl, and she’s talking about me. “Excuse me?” I ask. “it looks like you got your outfit from goodwill.” She laughs. “Wear something more fashionable. Like jeans.” I frown and look down at my clothes. It’s not that bad. The only thing I’m wearing is a pair of black ripped jeans and a loose tye dye shirt. “Then what would YOU wear?” I shoot back. She smiles and sits down in front of me. “Well, for starters, I would wear more tight clothing. Like my sister said, she’s obsessed with fashion, things you should wear… loose shirt and tight pants or loose pants with a tight shirt. Never tight with tight or loose with loose.” She leans back. “And that’s just basic logic. I can help you make a whole wardrobe in just ONE day.” I frown even more. “Well, I thank you for the advice, but no thank you.” She scoffs. “Whatever, your ex-friend Regina asked me to help you. Said your outfits are trash and sh!t.” She stands up and smiles. “Nice knowing ya.” I put my book back into my backpack and stand up. “I loved this talk, girl, but I just lost my appetite.” I smile, like she did. “Thanks for the tips.” And with that, I walk out the door.
