Zombie War IV Jan 6-10, 2016 The sky was cloudless. It was one of those brilliant August days that only happen in California—the sort of day when you feel as if you could touch the clouds with your hands, and do it just for the fun of it. I lay in a lawn chair, just chilling. I was barefoot, wearing only my green T-shirt and pink pants, while sunlight warmed me through the grass and made the world turn gold around me. The San Bernardino Mountains rose up to the west; miles away, across the desert, were the snow. Now this was life. I know I am a 10 year old living by myself. But damn it, it's nice to be alone sometimes. It is good to have things that make noise. Right now, I had my headphones on and they were blaring Imagine dragons. There are certain songs he wrote back then. I got up and just then, heard my crazy, smart next door neighbor dancing. Ugh, it's so not good. Just then, Maya Bloom, my bestie, and Nick Smith came up to me. I put down my headphones. Oh right, I'm Nicole, I am a girl, duh. Maya has long dark hair and bright blue eyes. Nick is tall, athletic, black hair and about as goofy as a guy can get. "What are you doing?" Maya asked me. She squatted down beside me and looked at me curiously. "Just bored, you?" I said. "Nah, no." she replied. "Doing some really cool stuff," I told her. Maya snorted. "I think maybe you should stay home from school today," she suggested. I raised an eyebrow at her, although I knew what it was. Suddenly, an undead, evil groan came. Maya started giggling. Nick and I both jumped up and ran towards our front yard fence. When we turned around, there was a zombie wandering our neighborhood, shuffling towards us. Its mouth hung open like it wanted something. Maya shivered. Just then a pea shot passed us and hit the zombie, killing it. And suddenly the whole world became too quiet again. A sharp red light filled the sky. A couple hours later, there were more of them. Zombies can't swim, but people can. In fact, I saw it happen first hand in my backyard in my freaking pool! So all night, there were zombies swimming around in pools. They seemed as startled by water as any person. Of course, that didn't help. By morning, it wasn't even funny anymore. People were screaming and panicking everywhere. Then I heard a huge chomp in my bedroom. There I saw a chomper plant on my bed with a zombie arm hanging out of his mouth. The arm knocked a can of alphabet cookies on my light stand. "what?" the plant said and Maya and I started to scream in fear. The Plant looked at me and Maya and said. "um….sorry about the window" Really? The window’s glass was on my bed. He got off the bed and ate the whole zombie in a bite! “Who are you?” Maya spoke up. “I am Herny, the Chomper,” he said. “I’m Nicole and this is Maya” I said. He nodded and climbed out of the window.
