Okay so I was gonna make a full training guide but I'm not motivated enough so you can have what I wrote from forever ago haha. Apprentices: Sicariushug, Mourningquiver, Jasminepaw Training may vary depending on the apprentice. ---- [[ MOON ONE - INTRODUCTION ]] - The first thing Glorydune will do is get his apprentice to spend more time interacting with plants, herbs and fruit. Cactus fruit can have small glochids (spines) that should be removed before consumption, and the apprentice will be taught to use water and tree bark to scrub out the glochids. - Glorydune will then let the apprentice dip their toes into medicine cat duties, teaching them about herbs that can treat minor/basic injuries. He'll try to find someone around camp who has a small cut so the apprentice can learn to make a desert marigold poultice and apply it to the injury. - Some herbs might seem useless, you might assume they exist only to please the senses. But the apprentice will be taught that basil, for example, has many medicinal uses. It is antibacterial and anti-inflammitory, especially useful for stomach problems. - The apprentice will be taught to sort herbs and keep the den organized, but Glorydune does a lot of the tidying anyway, so apprentice won't have to worry about spending too much time on this. - You know what I said about interacting with plants more often? Glorydune will teach his apprentice how to make plant-based accessories, such as flower crowns. [[ MOON TWO - THE DESERT ]] - Glorydune loves the desert, and hates it when his Clanmates draw conclusions about the territory. He knows firsthand that the land is full of useful herbs, many of which aren't found anywhere else. For the next few days the apprentice will spend most of their time on desert expeditions to collect as many herbs as possible, accompanied by Glorydune who can offer advice and keep them on the right track. After each day, the apprentice will need Glorydune less and less. - While Glorydune and the apprentice are out on their expeditions, Glorydune will teach them to navigate WindClan territory. They will be taught to take caution around the center of the territory, as that is where the canyon is. Borders will be visited briefly, but this is more so a way for Glorydune to relieve his fear of RiverClan tresspassers, and the edge of the territory will be properly revisted later. - On the topic of caution, what better time to teach them about survival in the desert? And of course it's best time for Glorydune will brag about how his long and insulating, yet light and feathery coat that is perfectly adapted to protecting him from heat. He'll also brag about the large fan palm he wears atop his head to protect him from the harsh sun, demonstrating the usefulness of plants and suggesting that his apprentice should try something similar if they leave camp while the sun is still out. They'll also be advised to walk beneath desert trees such as acacias, and to drink water frequently (the apprentice will have learnt about the locations of water sources when they were taught about navigation). - The apprentice will be taught how to use desert herbs. Most of these the apprentice would have collected themself, but there would be a few that Glorydune could introduce them to. There will be a lot to learn about in this section, especially because many herbs need to be handled a certain way and have the potential to be toxic. Aloe vera, for example, is one of Glorydune's favorite plants and it has many medicinal qualities. It is extremely beneficial to the skin and is useful in so many other ways, but it is slightly toxic when consumed, so the medicine cat must warn their patients to wait a while before grooming themself. Garlic is useful for bringing out poison, but it can also poison a cat when consumed. Borage can cure fevers, but if too much is consumed, it can cause sickness, so the dose should be small. It's strange, isn't it? ---- You're free to discuss with me what Glorydune has taught the apprentice in the following moons! We also would have roleplayed a bit of the training, but I think this does a good job touching on the lessons we've missed roleplaying.
