Because of his lack of a mouth, he ended up needing to learn sign language; eventually this lead to him getting acquainted with Gaster. Nowadays he seems to be the only one in Snowdin (other than maybe sans) who knows and understands Gaster. | He is mute (he literally doesn't have a mouth, don't ask how he eats) and speaks using sign language.
