Okay, I’m gonna ramble for a second, but this design is legit so pretty. The color palette is fabulous. It’s especially eye catching because it reminds me of the kitsunes in shows in such, but it’s also a lot more colorful. It’s not just white and it has different red tones. I also like the horns and ears. Ramble aside, now onto the entry. I lied, it’s actually more rambling. Okay, so basically I took the fox/dog concept that is apparent in the design and the mythological aspect to a slightly deeper level. He is a Inugami (dog portion) mixed with a kitsune (fox portion). He is specifically a nogitsune. Now, just know that a nogitsune is a trickster kitsune and not a zenko (good fox). I won’t bore you by reciting the Britannica article I read, but I felt like including terminology. Okay, the actual bio is in the Notes and Credits because it’s uh, a little long. I fixated on him too hard. Anyways, onto the art. Scratch destroyed the quality, it’s gone. Oh well. :’) 1. I didn’t draw this, this was the original design by @IzzyTheLemonMan. I just wanted to include it as just a reminder of the original design. 2. So this is super lazy, but it was like, a concept reference for when i was just drawing out his human design. Technically this isn’t his disguised form where he only has his tails, but he kinda doesn’t care anyways, because tricking humans by parading around as one is like, the oldest trick in the book. It’s fun and all, but where’s the creativity? 3. So I was inspired a bit by Sesshormaru’s dog form in Inuyasha, because it looked cool and I also got a lot of inspiration from, like the opening of the animated Mulan. I always thought that was cool, so like, I took the styling from that, I don’t know what it’s called. For the procreate users, I used the watercolor and blotchy pens under the calligraphy section. I like how it turned out. 4. Okay, so this was certainly something. It’s been awhile since I’ve done painting so I was like, let’s just do the normal process. I did flat coloring and then used Procreate’s flat paint brush to do the shading and such. For almost the entire process, I had my scribbly pink and purple lineart at a lower opacity and then I hide it. I wasn’t expecting it to look how it did? Like, it’s much more blocky than my usual painting style, so I just rolled with it. It honestly looks kinda cool in my opinion. The lighting isn’t as dramatic as I was wanting it to be, but I feel like the painting took on it’s own sort of character. It looks styled and stuff, so hey, I’ll take it. XD Anyways, it’s Kazumasa showing off his fox fire. Fox fire is traditionally blue I think, but since he has such a red color palette, I just went with the red. Anyways, super pretty design. I just think he looks cool honestly and it was pretty fun entering, even if I don’t end up getting him. I would say go join ’s DTA, but like, I think it would be physically impossible to actually get an entry in since I’m legit posting this the day it’s due. I actually knew about the DTA a few months before the due date, so I decided to just wait a bit beforehand and low and behold, I was cramming my entry in before the deadline. Moral of the story is procrastination is bad.
@IzzyTheLemonMan for hosting the DTA and the character design. Me for all the stuff you see here and art. Technically Disney and Rumiko Takahashi. Name: Kazumasa Age: Very old but technically immortal because I don’t think Inugami or Kitsune perish from natural causes Species: Inugami/Kitsune Height: 6’5 I know, probably the most wimpy bio ever, but I feel like telling a summary of his character concept I came up with would allow for me to better convey his personality. - So, basically, he’s a nogitsune (or Yako) so he’s very much a trickster personality. - He regularly travels with his “thousand fox company” - Actually has pretty bad trust issues, because basically a human just kinda let him go. They were good friends and then she just became interested in other things and it was deeply scaring. He doesn’t want to have to experience the feeling of still caring for someone while they don’t really care about you again. - That was really overly specific, but it kinda marked his change from being more of a zenko to being a yako. - He now takes enjoyment from people’s misfortune or simply playing tricks. Isn’t really malicious, just kinda likes attention. - He is a nine tailed tenko which is basically a kitsune that has lived a thousand years, has nine tails, and has turned a golden color. - Considers his experience with the human girl to be “the moment I learned how betrayal and pain felt.” - He is a hybrid and it’s actually a funny story, so basically his mom despised his dad, because he was a Inugami, a dog basically, and Kitsune despise dogs. He eventually grew on her because he desired to have her and pestered her to no end. Anyways, long story short, they got married and Kazumasa was born. They named him this because it means “peaceful and righteous” in Japanese. - Despite being fairly respected by his company due to his great age, some who are commonly subjected to listening to him complain are slightly weary of him - Said complaining mostly consists of making covert remarks about how the lady (grew apart from-) betrayed him. “I was born of the putting aside of differences yet the world casts me aside, choosing to revel in its cruelty.” - He can be very wise and give good advice. Thusly he also demands respect. - He’s also very proud and has a tendency to be an absolute menace when bored. Since he’s been around for a long time and has seen almost every trick, he likes to be creative of how he causes trouble. - He rates his creativity on how fast the person is able to identify that a kitsune caused the problem and how surprised they are. - On occasion, he’ll go harass a noble or something - Doesn’t really bother trying to hide his tails as Kitsunes can’t get rid of them even in human form and he doesn’t really care enough to go the extra mile to hide all nine of them - He likes using his fan for fanning himself and hitting people over the head with it if they are becoming bothersome - He sometimes likes putting on the act of being absent minded and foolish in front of people he wants to trick. He basically lures them into a false sense of being able to outsmart a mighty tenko only for him to foil their plans. - He gets such a kick out of it, especially if they have done something offensive enough to deserve death. He specifically searches out the wicked man for this purpose. Of course, he maintains a serious composure as to fully enjoy their absolute terror. - Mind you, he only does this to those he deems wicked as it is less enjoyable to him to tempt a righteous man. - As a Yako, he is kinda like the worst Yako ever, because he doesn’t really have the heart to be a true Yako
