Steel OS 2.51 Beta [Version 2.51.1607] Compiled: 28 May 2023 @ 1:58 PM EST Patch Notes: - Changed the identity of the system in the boot screen. - Changed the identity of the system in System. - Started to change the visual theme. - Changed the button appearance of the Clear button in Memo. Known Issues: - Some issues may exist with the Music Player and playback (playback may not stop when the program is closed). - Calculator's usual issues. - Quanty, main menu, and About system window all still identify as 2.3.1600 or 2.0.1400 - 2.0/2.3 SD.Future theme still appears on all of the program windows instead of 2.51.2300/3.0.2280[β2] Basic theme. - Some UI elements among the theme may not be fluent. Questions: - [Q] Why is the theme being changed? - [A] Because Steel OS 2.51 is a crossover release, kinda like Steel OS 1.51 was supposed to be—This means it is a crossover between Steel OS 2.3 and Steel OS 3 built on top of Steel OS 2.3's code base. - [Q] Why have I not posted anything new since the 12th of May? - [A] Other things have gotten in the way of me being able to sufficiently work on Steel OS: School, personal projects (like old computers), personal interests, and other platforms (such as YouTube) have put Scratch near the bottom of the priority list. - [Q] Why did you use Steel OS 2.3's codebase instead of Steel OS 3's codebase? - [A] Steel OS 3 is (1) not complete, and (2) at this point, effectively impossible to reverse the development of it (it is 628 builds into development). - [Q] Why is the final build number going to be 2.51.2300? - [A] Because it won't be as long of a development process as Steel OS 2.0 or Steel OS 3 (the final build number of which is still to be determined), so I think it can fit within the 700 build window. - [Q] I'm having some issues running the OS! Did you do something wrong? - [A] Well, I had issues getting this project to successfully save when I imported it. Normally I don't have these kinds of issues, but I've had issues with the Brave browser and Scratch recently, but I could try Opera GX to see if I get similar results. - [Q] Why do you call it an OS and not a game? - [A] Because Steel OS is system software, not a game. Operating systems (and other system software) can effectively be made using game engines (it's a bad idea, you should use Assembly language, C++, Rust, etc. instead, but it is possible), although games can be developed for the Steel OS platform. - [Q] Why does the final interface look like Steel OS 3? - [A] I used the Steel OS Basic 4 visual theme and the UI is similar to Steel OS 3 to improve compatibility between the UIs of Steel OS 2.xx and Steel OS 3.xx.
