1. Humour is sad Yes it is! Humour can be sad! Picture this: Your hero, your main character, is watching their best friend die. Right before they take their last breath, they turn to the main character and insert a little inside joke, and then they die without the main character being able to respond. THAT'S SAD! If you contort humour in the right way, it works. 2. Villain to anti-hero is THE BEST Because I am adding this exact thing into one of the stories I'm writing, can anyone who uses this idea change it slightly? Anyway, I think the best thing ever is when you have a goofy, smartass villain who is only a villain because it means they can do whatever they want. Then, after many encounters with the M/C and with another truly evil and lawful villain, they begin to realise that they too will die if they don't help the M/C defeat this new villain. They deny being a hero but still offer their help. Them along with their sidekick who just wants them to be happy and doesn't think the plan is a good idea, follow the lead of the M/C. They are lead into a perilous situation where the sidekick dies and says some painful last words. The once goofy and careless villain breaks down into tears. 3. IRONY is your new BEST FRIEND In the main novel I am currently writing, I love using irony to make character more interesting. Irony can make a character much more likeable or much more unlikeable. It depends on how you use it. Don't make every character like this. If you do, it will get old pretty quickly and it won't have the same effect. I'll use my story as an example. Prince of a bloodline that hunts commoners - Protects the commoners with his life Escaped murderer - the most empathetic Conwoman - Ballet dancer Young future king from a bloodline that doesn't try to save commoners - is the one that takes a stand 4. Draw a map Drawing a map is super helpful, especially in fantasy novels. Kleki Paint Tool is a great thing to use and it's free. Just take a screenshot of whatever you draw. It doesn't have to be detailed, and you don't have to be any good at art. Just use different blotches of colour for different places. 5. Listen to your english teacher It doesn't matter whether you are a novel writer or a poet or anything else, LISTEN TO YOUR ENGLISH TEACHER. AT the start of this year, i thought that the only knowledge that would be valuable to me over the year would be that concerning creative writing, but we haven't even gotten close to that yet and I have already learnt so much. My english teacher is amazing and so is my librarian. You english teacher is trying to help you and they will if you just listen. You will need the skills they provide. That's it for now, I'm kind of uninspired I think this might be one of the best thumbnails I've ever made byeeeeeeee <3
