A torrential downpour, the usually gentle pitter-patter a rage of fuming sky. The warrior smiled. Some said the stars were angry, some believed a storm was a curse. But it wasn’t. To the small and fluffy feline lying in a latch of ferns, it was a blessing from the highest order. Higher even than Starclan. For it was nature itself, with its everlasting reign, that shook the skies. A gift, from nature itself. All at once, the skies were brutally ripped open, the dark mysterious and brooding storm clouds brutally torn apart. A fork of golden light crashed down in the distance, faster than a blink of the eye. Most other cats would have missed it. But not this one. From a young age, this cat had watched storms, marvelled in their powerful beauty. She had grown accustomed to the unpredictable nature, learnt how to blink without missing a second. A few seconds later, an ominous rumble resonated through the clouds, a most bone-rattling sound. As Berryshine watched the deep scratched dark-grey purple clouds, and felt the wet talons falling from the sky, she smiled, but at the same time, she sighed. She felt a deep connection to the storm, one that she wouldn’t be able to explain, and one that others wouldn’t understand. And right now, she definitely related to the storm. Why? She wasn’t about to say. With a melancholy look up to the stars, the rain on her pelt was joined by tears. Bitter, miserable tears, guilt-ridden ones too. As she cried, the rain poured down too. But slowly, it began to fade. The rain thinned, and slowed, into a light drizzle. Slowly, the angry clouds moved away, making way for wispy snow-coloured puffs in the sky. A thin mist spread around, as the storm moved on. The sun streamed out its rays, and a few caught the warrior on her fur. Up in the banks of the sky-blue sky, light started to form, colours bending, waving, until they had created an arc in the sky. Sniffing, a small smile spread on the warrior’s face, turning into a full scale grin as the rainbow formed in front of her eyes. Hope. It spread through her body, creating the wonderful type of joy you get after tears, and from watching a miracle. It was a sign. Not an intentional one, not one from the stars. It was nature reminding her. True joy can only exist after misery. Rainbows are only formed after rain. Hope flared, even brighter now. Though misery consumed her body now, one day, she’d see the rainbow. She just had to wait. She made a silent vow to herself, and purred. Yes, she’d find the rainbow, some day. She just had to be patient. Joy, hope and peace bloomed around her as she slowly got up, shaking off the dew that sparkled on her pelt. Rearranging her flowers, she padded off to find Frolickingbird, an intense happiness pulsating throughout her body. Everything would turn out all right. She just had to wait. ☼
