The soft breeze blew her silky fur in every direction. The sweet smell of marigolds filled her nose. Her den was only a few tail-lengths away in the woods. This had been her home her whole life. Her parents also lived in these meadows, hence they named her Marigold. She paused, a deep rumbling seemed to shake the air. Her sensitive ears twitched and swiveled. A bright yellow glowing ball flew into her sight. “Meteor!!! Or a star or something?!!!!” Marigold yelled, “Everyone, if there even is anyone who is out here.” She muttered. Flattening her ears to her head she raced back towards the woods. A whistling noise made Marigold look behind herself. “Aaaaaahh!” Her eyes widened, and she tried to run faster. But, it was too late. Shadows blanketed her vision and ringing filled her ears. She woke up gasping for air. The fallen star was still glowing and smoking. Radioactive, perhaps, thought Marigold. She stood shakily and walked over to inspect the star further. Its surface was so shiny she could see her reflection. “Gaaah!” She stumbled backward. Flower petals floated around her and flowers had grown where she stepped. Her face was half skeleton and her back was damaged and spotty with a flower sprouting. She panted heavily, “What in the world is going on?!?” From that day forward Marigold became a guardian of the forest, but never quite figured out what had happened that bizarre day. She did however learn to love her new form.
