Using Scratch for the first time allowed me to create a cup of water that shoots a yellow laser to zap cheese puffs that fall into the ocean. Pressing the space bar shoots out a yellow laser illuminating the cheese bowl puffs representing the ocean’s garbage dumped by cruise ships.
I finally figured out how to delete the trash in the ocean with a yellow neon laser. This project was inspired by visiting the Brooklyn Aquarium and realizing our oceans are highly polluted by human dumping. For example, Do cruise ships dump food waste in the ocean? U.S. law requires cruise ships to treat waste within about 3.5 miles of shore—but beyond that, there are no restrictions on dumping polluted sewage and graywater. Researchers have estimated that cruise lines release over a billion gallons of sludge from excrement and food scraps into the ocean every year. May 18, 2022
