A Moonless Night Chapter One ____________________________________________ The sweetness and warmth of Newleaf dissolved the cold marks that Leafbare made on Sunclan. Admirable pink flowers blossomed like a kit growing up slowly over beautiful and savored moons, their petals scattering across the warm floor of the forest. Even the melodic voices of the songbirds sang of the new season, their beloved newborn chicks squeaking for a desired morning meal. The plants were green and as ease, with not the slightest touch of frost clinging onto their leaves as had been in the harsh days of the unwanted Leafbare. “Wake up, Jaguarpaw.” a voice soft as summer rain on the stones of Lakeclan's territory said. Jaguarpaw felt prodding on his golden-brown shoulder, lightly enough to not cause any pain but certainly wake him up. He opened his eyes to see a gray-blue she-cat with sapphire eyes, the dawn's light causing them to light up like the stars that clung to the dark night sky. “Bluepaw, is Deathclaw up yet?” Jaguarpaw asked, blinking the sleep-craving water from his brilliant green eyes. Bluepaw sat down, giving him enough room to get out of his cozy nest of fluffed moss. “Yes. He wants to assign a hunting patrol soon, with you and Blazepaw in it.” She answered with a brisk nod. Jaguarpaw heaved himself from his nest, arching in back and gaping his mouth in an enormous yawn. He reached over to groom his shoulder as Bluepaw walked out of the den, gazing at the working, busy camp. Jaguarpaw came out after her, spotting Blazepaw bolting into camp, filled to the brim with energy. “Jaguarpaw! You'll never believe what I just saw. A rattle snake came out it's den early.” the younger apprentice panted, his orange fur ruffled from sprinting. “Did it try to bite you?” He asked. Blazepaw shook his head. “It was less than half a tail-length long. Just a kit, I suppose.” The apprentice said excitedly. “Oh, good! I'm going to go get some food. Have any of you eaten yet?” Jaguarpaw asked his friends. Blazepaw nodded, still trying to catch his breath after his hasty and unneeded run. “I haven't eaten yet. I'm so hungry I could eat an entire deer!” Bluepaw exclaimed, standing up. Jaguarpaw stretched his forelimbs before heading over to the fresh kill pile. Hailpaw was finishing a vole as they approached, the white she-cat sitting peacefully in the sunlight. “Hi, Jaguarpaw!” she said, turning her head to look at him with her head tilted. “Good morning.” Jaguarpaw said blankly, not paying much attention at all to the fact that she was trying to prove herself, considering she had just become an apprentice not much longer than a moon or two ago. Jaguarpaw and Bluepaw finished their breakfast with haste before heading out on the patrol, Deathclaw and Lilacfeather going with them. ____________________________________________ End of part!
