Laghk backed away, blinking in stunned shock at Spirk. “You’re… my… no…” Laghk turned away, unable to believe what she was hearing. “Y-you’re lying.” Laghk turned back to face Spirk, regaining her courage as sharp, cold fury seemed to build up inside of her. “No, Fwarth is my mother, not you. How dare you try to stand where she stands, you disgusting wolf!” Laghk threw herself at Spirk, feeling her claws tear Spirk’s fur as she felt her fury overflow. One of Spirk’s claws sank into her flank, forcing Laghk to stop. She turned, shakily, to face Spirk, and found herself staring right into her cold, amber eyes. “Wolves of the same kin have the same color eyes, do they not?” Spirk rasped. Before Laghk could answer, Spirk continued. “Well, have you ever noticed, that while your eyes are amber, your parents eyes gleam sapphire blue? That no one else in your family has your same color eyes? Well, look at me.” Laghk forced herself to gaze into Spirk’s eyes. And there, were glistening amber eyes, the exact same shade as her own. Laghk stumbled back with a gasp. She tripped over a tree root, and fell flat on her back. Yet, Spirk did not advance on her. The other wolves had stopped fighting, and Laghk could see both fear and concern in Spice’s hazel eyes as she looked from Laghk to Spirk, finally realizing their similarities. Me and Spirk have the same slanted muzzle, and the same striding gait. Laghk thought, her heart beating faster than it ever had before. It makes so much sense but— “No!” The words were out before Laghk even had time to register what she was saying. She turned her tail on the four wolves, and fled. Tears nearly blinded her, blurring her vision so it felt like every rock, every vine, every tree root had placed themselves purposely in her path, just to see her trip and struggle. The whole while, one thought raced continuously through her head; she can’t be my mother, she CAN’T be! If she was, then Fwarth would be lying, and the Blue Moon pack, wouldn’t be my pack after all. The Red Moon pack would.
