I'm Violet! ❞ ⌚Jul. 10, 2023 ┊i n f o ⎙ I got this book for free when I met the author at a writing camp I attended. she was really nice, and used the term "kindred spirits" I nearly fell out of my seat XD anyways, this story is written in poetry, and I found it very interesting. ┊b a s i c f a c t s title: The Red Pencil author: Andrea Davis Pinkney publication: 2014 genre: poetry + historical fiction ┊s u m m a r y set in Sudan, Amira is a young girl, who loves to make drawings with her stick. her big desire is to write, but her mama won't let her. one day, the Janjaweed comes and burns down the village. she is displaced to a refugee camp where she is gifted a red pencil, and begins to learn to write. will the pencil help her move forward in life, or bring a burden on her relationship with Mama? ┊r a t i n g ★★★★ (4.5) this was so good! I wished there were more pages with the red pencil, but still, fantastic :D
