Night Scythes (Nox Messorem) are 5.6-foot-long predators that prowl the mountains, coasts, and plains of Teraminos. They are powerful predators with a bio-electrical sensor (a white strip along their backs) that can detect any life forms within a 0.7-kilometer range. Thye posses three Scythe-like limbs that gave them their name, the two front scythes being used to slash and rip prey and the back as a rudder in swimming or for balance, or as a brake to halt when running which makes sense as they can reach speeds of up to 25 mph. They are pack hunters, hunting in packs of up to 12 members, and they have a big red hard tail that acts like a rudder in swimming or can be used to show dominance (the higher the role in the hierarchy the brighter red it is). If a solitary Night Scythe needs to find a pack, they will select a pack that has the alpha with the brightest tail, showing that joining this pack will increase their chances of survival as they are more powerful. They have a powerful lower mandible that can crush at 1,240 psi, more powerful than the bite force of an Earth Hyena. They are ambush hunters, they target prey with weak eyesight and hunt at night, and communicate with each other during the hunt with ultrasonic sounds too high for their prey to hear, but enough for them to be able to create a strategy and plan in the midst of the hunt. They are a very successful species and as vicious and cold-blooded as they may seem they actually show a lot of care towards their pack members, if a member is sick or injured they will stay behind to care for them and work together to care for their Scythelings (baby Night scythes) who are very playful and color gray as they don't need to be jet black yet to blend in as they don't hunt. Older siblings often care for their younger siblings while parents are hunting, much like Earth Crows. Despite being friendly to pack members, rival packs are a different matter. They plot raids on other packs, to take their, food, territory, or steal other pack's Scythelings and raise them as their own, lessening the other pack's members and giving them more. These raids can go from a small fight to a deadly war, and some packs have been going to war on each other for countless generations and they will fight to the death. Their Scientific Name means "Night Reaper" and it is not wrong. They are truly vicious but soft and interesting organisms but there's no denying that they are among the most powerful predators on Planet Teraminos.
