Her mother, Dapple, and her father, Rusty, looked at their beautiful pup in awe. "She's perfect Dapple!" Rusty said. Dapple nodded. "She's going to be a big help on the farm." She said. A Year Later: Spots was walking along the orchard when she spotted Dapple herding sheep. /Maybe I could help!\ She thought. She walked over to her mother and watched her move gracefully with the sheep. Dapple saw her daughter and walked over. "Hello Spots. Are you looking for something to do?" She asked gently. Spots nodded. Dapple smiled. "Why don't you help me get these sheep into their pen?" Spots nodded again. Dapple and Spots went over to the sheep. "What I want you to do is to stay in the back and make sure the sheep follow me." Dapple said. She went to the front and Spots went to the back. Her tail wagged fast. Suddenly the sheep ran forward and so did she. Everything was going great until one of the troublesome sheep stopped and turned to face her. She barked at it to move, The bark made it move just not in the direction she wanted it to. It started to charge at her. Spots backed up and turned around to run. Dapple led the sheep to the pen and closed the gate. She counted them to make sure none of them were missing. She counted all of them except one. She looked around and saw the sheep chasing Spots. She jumped down from her post and ran to the sheep. Spots looked back to see the sheep gaining on her. That's when she crashed into the fence. She turned her head to look and saw the sheep 3 tail lengths away. She closed her eyes preparing for the worst. She heard a bark and the sheep baaing loudly. She opened her eyes to see Dapple herding the sheep to the pen like the others. She opened the gate and then shut it. She shook her fur and then walked over to Spots. "Are you alright Spots?" She asked as she checked her for wounds. "I'm fine mom, thanks though." Spots slowly got up. "I should've told you there was a trouble maker in the herd." Dapple said frowning. Spots shook the dust out of her fur. "It's fine mom, now I know what to do when that happens again." The two laughed. "Anything else I can help you with?" Spots asked. Dapple shook her head. "You could ask your father, though. He might need help inspecting the crops." She said with a smile. "Thanks mom." Spots smiled and ran toward the crops. Once she got there she looked around for Rusty. "Hey Cutie pie!" Spots jumped and turned around to see a chuckling Rusty. "Oh hey Dad." She giggled a little too. "What 'cha up to today." He asked her. Spots explained him the story with the sheep and he laughed. "Don't worry Spots, your not the only one who almost got ran over by that sheep." Spots smiled. "Anyway I was wondering if you need help inspecting the crops." Rusty thought for a moment. "Why not. That would be a huge help to me." He said. "All we have to do is make sure no animals have damaged the crops, if they have we report it to Jeff, sounds good?" Spots smiled. "Sounds good Dad." The both of them went along the rows of crops and inspecting them. After awhile Spots saw some damaged wheat in her row and barked to her dad. Rusty came up with a smile on his face. He let out a little chuckle. "Did you get close to the damaged wheat?" He asked still smiling. "Well I wasn't sure if a animal was still there." She said, puzzled to why her father was laughing. "Take a closer look Spots." Spots stepped forward to see what happened and then let out a embarrassed sigh. Rusty came right beside her. "It's alright Spots. You did a good job." He said licking her forehead. "It took me awhile to figure out what was water pockets and what was real damage. Why don't you go and get a drink of water. I'll finish up here." Spots nodded and headed to the Farmhouse. Once she got there she saw the Redman's children playing in the front. She smiled and went to the water bowl. She stared at her reflection for a minute before drinking some water. /Why can't I do anything right?\ She asked herself. She laid down on the porch and watched the kids before taking a nap. Spots woke up from her nap. It was almost sundown and the kids were still playing. She watched them with joy. All of a sudden, a low growl came from the tall grass. Spots stood up to see if she could see where the growl was coming from. She saw 2 green eyes in the distance. /Cougar!!\ She said in her head. She rushed to the kids and stayed by them. The cat came out of the grass and Spots started growling. She started pushing the kids toward the house. The cat was down on the ground and coming closer to them. Spots decided to do what only brave dogs would do, fight the cougar. She started barking and charged at it.
Art by me (Might draw the cougar and Spots soon) Design for Spots by @AUSSIELABRADOODLE123 Dapple and Rusty are my characters Song: August by Taylor Swift ((Continued from above)) She swatted it's face with her claws and it jumped back. Spots continued to bark. Her voice rang through the orchard. The cougar wasn't going to back down though and tried to bite at Spots. Spot saw what it was going to do and dodged the attack. Marilla Redman, the mother of the kids, came out to see the commotion and gasped in horror. She frantically called the kids in. Spots weaved in between the legs of the cougar. Once she was behind it, she bit down hard, on it's tail. It yelped in pain and gave her a slash of claws. Spots couldn't dodge the blow and was sent flying across the yard. She slowly got up and growled at the cougar. She rushed to it's face and bit it's ear. The cat shrieked with pain and ran away. Spots ran up the stairs to the house to check on everybody. "Oh Spots thank you. Thank you." Marilla said to her. Spots wagged her tail as her parents and Jeff ran up to the house. "Spots are you alright?" Her parents asked her. Dapple nuzzled her pup. "I'm fine. Just a few minor cuts." Her parents smiled at her. "Marilla called Jeff saying there was a cougar here, so we rushed over." Rusty said looking at his daughter. "I'm proud of you Spots." Dapple nudged at him and he chuckled. "We're both proud of you." Dapple said. The kids rushed over to the trio. They petted Spots and she wagged her tail. Marilla hugged Jeff. "Spots did a fantastic job protecting the kids." She said. They turned their attention to Spots. "You know Marilla we need a guard dog." Spots' parents over heard and barked in agreement. "Then it's settled Jeff. Spots will be our guard dog!" (THE END)
