Laghk stepped into the Blue Moon pack camp, branches and smears of blood littered the ground, and the wolves were huddled up on the edges of the clearing, all bearing terrible wounds and glaring at her. One wolf stepped forward, one of her ears was torn and there was a bleeding claw mark running down one of her legs, but Laghk recognized that sun-yellow pelt instantly. “Fwarth!” She gasped, suddenly feeling as if the air was being pressed from her lungs. Fwarth didn’t answer, she instead blinked slowly at Laghk, and then suddenly, she leapt. Fwarth knocked Laghk off her paws and landed on top of her, sides trembling with the effort. Fwarth leaned close to Laghk, and her voice came out in a horse whisper as she rasped, “You traitor.” Even though Fwarth had been talking quietly, all the wolves in the clearing seemed to hear her, and instantly howled their agreement. “Traitor!” “Impostor!” “You should go skittering back to to the Red Moon pack, where you belong!” “How dare you insult us with your presence!” Laghk gazed around wildly, struggling to breathe as Fwarth’s crushing weight was still on top of her. At last, she spotted Mestagen, curled up in a corner next to Spice, he looked both innocent, and prideful at the same time. Even though he curled up with his tail tucked and ears laid back, his eyes shone with pride as he seemed to say “She’s mine now. You’re the traitor, I’m the hero.” Laghk turned back to Fwarth, as the she-wolf staggered to her paws, seeming to gasp for breath. A shocked mumur rippled through the gathered wolves, as Fwarth collapsed again, a few paw-steps away from Laghk. Only then, did Laghk noticed that a longer, bigger gash ran from the wolf’s mid-back to hindquarters. She’s dying! Laghk thought frantically, rising to her paws and rushing to her false-mother’s side. Laghk pressed her muzzle to Fwarth’s cheek, praying silently: please don’t die! Just please PLEASE don’t die! But Laghk was too late, Fwarth let out a long, shuddering breath, and went limp. ~ Laghk jolted awake, her heart beating fast and sweat dampening her fur. Laghk glanced around. She was in the forest, somewhere in Blue Moon pack territory. The night before, she had found this small hollowed out log to sleep in. She rose stiffly to her paws. Even though it was the middle of the night, she knew that after her dream, there was something she needed to do. I need to set things right! She thought. If I don’t, my dream might just become reality, and I can’t let that happen.
