Story in the “Notes and Credits” -The Whisper, a short horror story. @GP2023Harper
March 3, 2010 “Did you read the paper?” Casey heard some neighbors whisper on her way to the local coffee shop, “Tim’s Coffee Shop” She stopped skipping and slowly walked so she could hear the tea. Maybe a new shop opened, a lost dog? There were so many possibilities. “I wonder who it was, I mean what sicko kidnaps two ten year old girls?” Casey stopped in her tracks, she slowly walked to her house and picked up the newspaper that was sitting on their welcome mat. Covering the “come!” in “Welcome!” a torn up newspaper read, “2 Girls Abducted In The Local Park! More News As Case Grows.” Casey froze, she kept on reading but the only information she gathered was the girls where 10 and named Maya Jasper and Carla Jasper. She remembered the two Jasper twins from when they bumped into each other at “Tim’s”. She decided that her morning bagel could wait and walked to the park instead. Just as she reached the gate, a police man whistled and ran to her. She tried to look past him at the reporters inside. “Hold it right there young lady. This is a crime scene, come back later.” She scowled at him and walked to the grocery store to watch the news on their T.V. “Wellcome or welcome back to channel 6 news, I'm Amanda Brown on the Jasper case. We have reason to believe the twins were abducted in this spot, a fence can be seen cut, maybe the twins had been pulled. Now here's Mr. and Mrs Jasper.” “Hello Oakland County, thank you all for your work to find our little girls. They're names are Maya and Carla. Maya had brown hair and was wearing a bun when she went to the park. Carla has blonde hair and was wearing a french braid. They had matching pink dresses with lace and white pants.” Two pictures appeared on the screen, one of the two girls and one police sketch. Many shoppers stopped in their tracks and took a photo of the screen. Casey kept on listening but there was no more information. She walked out of the store and sighed, she didn't feel safe in her own town and her town was one where no one needed to lock their doors and everyone knew each other. Casey walked over to “Tim’s Coffee Shop '' and ordered her usually. “Heard any news about the case?” Casey asked. “Nope just what's on the paper, we sure are busy though, police officers coming in for a snack.” Tim said while shaking up her drink. He handed her the food and said, “it's on the house.” She smiled and thanked him and with a quick pace she rushed back home.
