The two had recently fallen out over Swann's mismanagement of the Camden strikes. Swann's use of force against the workers had labeled him as a butcher, and Catchells didn't like his reputation to be muddied. Despite Catchells's consistent claims of innocence, the papers claimed they had d@mning evidence against him. Catchells had been the only person to enter Swann's office that day, and Swann's body bore the distinctive claw marks of a cat around its neck. With the police and the press both against him, Catchells realized that his only hope of getting justice was to hire a private investigator to find the true culprit. Ira Mauser, a rookie detective from New York, answered Catchells's call for help and began digging into the case. He soon realized that the case was not as clear-cut as he thought it would be.
