❝ And while you sleep in the pouring rain ❞ Before we get started, I want to say thank you to Myst for giving me the baby girl all those months ago. It’s been nearly a year... She’s thirty six moons old. Nine months of Kiah. She was the first roleplay character I ever bonded with. She means a lot to me. But she has nowhere else to go. ToL is dying. I don’t want her to go to SaS if her family won’t live there for long. Honestly, I don’t want her to go anyway because I’m not sure I could keep her active. I don’t want her to disappear. So I’m ending it here. I intend to use her in the past, and do some srp’s set in the past. But this is the end of Kiah. Here it goes. ❝ Just know I'll be with you someday ❞ The world could be ending and Kiah wouldn’t know it. Actually, the world /was/ ending. But she had no idea a storm raged in the distance. Her gray and black body curled around a feather. It was a magpie feather. Black and white. Brought from Leafpack as a gift for her mother. Her limbs were tired, so tired. Her mind was at rest and she had no idea that danger was so close. The sun was going down, but it wasn’t getting dark yet. And Kiah still slept. After a week long journey after leaving Leafpack, she had run out of energy upon reaching the valley. She’d hardly slept since Calysto was k!lled. She stirred in her sleep, but didn’t wake. Nightmares had persisted until finally she had realized Leafpack couldn’t be her home. Not anymore. She had two choices. Live life as a lone wolf, or return and find her family. She’s lived as a lone wolf before, but at least in her juvenile days she’d met other wolves. Outside the valley, there would be no one. So she was back. As she slept, thunder rumbled in the distance. Across the valley. By the Pine Woods. Lighting was striking, but still Kiah did not wake. Until finally she did. Hours later, as the sky went dark. She opened her eyes slowly. And what she saw ended everything she had ever known. The highlands b u r n i n g. The entire valley was filled with smoke and fire. She could smell it from here, at the edge of the mountains. Shock and fear took hold. Moonjewel. Valkyrie. Pirie. Everyone of her siblings was /in there/. She sprang into motion without thinking through her actions. Running, running. Desperately trying to reach The River. Fadedpack. /Her mother/. She skidded to a stop at the start of the long grass. The fire was only a few hundred feet ahead. She couldn’t see any other wolves, but she could hear howls. Or maybe that was in her head. She couldn’t think. She just ran. Into the fire. The avoided the burning grasses as much as possible. But she needed to get to The River /now/. And then a tree fell across her path. It was on fire, like everything else. She looked around, trying to find another way. But she was surrounded. By towering flames. To high to safely jump. Her tail lowered between her legs by instinct. Her thoughts raced. And then she started to cough. It came on slowly. But a few minutes of panic later, she couldn’t breath. Smoke was everywhere. Everything. Suddenly she couldn’t stand either. She didn’t want to stay right here and give up. She couldn’t d!e like this, without even trying to escape. As her legs gave out, she staggered to the tree. There was a tiny space under it. Shear will power to live let her get under it and out the other side. And so, on trembling legs, she continued on. Until she could go no further. She fell to the ground. The sky was hidden by smoke. So much smoke. The grass below her was already burned. Each breath drained more of her energy. She couldn’t move, could barely think. She realized she left the feather behind. She realized she never passed the Fadedpack test. She realized she could have searched for Adira outside the valley. She realized she was dy!ng. She realized she was almost forty moons old. She realized she had spent half of her life outside the valley. She realized she never said goodbye to Calysto. She realized Leafpack might worry about her. And finally, she realized she April never see Moonjewel again. The fire closed in around her. But she couldn’t feel anything anymore. Calysto had said she suffered a lot, for one so young. She want young anymore. It finally hit her that she was /old/. She hadn’t d!ed young, like she though she would. In her younger days she had taken /every/ risk, without fear. But now she didn’t want to d!e. She had never fallen in love. Never taken care of pups. And this is how it would end. Her eyes closed a little more. A red haze hung over everything. And then, long before she was ready, her eyes closed. O b l i v i o n. Raindrops fell slowly, many hours later. To an unknown wolf, it may look as if Kiah was simply sleeping. But it wasn’t sleep that kept her lying still in the rain. ❝ And I'll have a good one till then ❞
